For some reason my base came with the PIN functionality already active, which means my dealer already set a pin code for my bike which I don't have. Not really a biggie as I'll have them reset it with my 600 mile service, but I was just wondering if anyone else had their pins set by the dealer without your knowledge?

Ya, mine was set. The number was 1234. I changed it. Other have said theirs were the last 4 digits of the serial number. Don't know if there is a limit on number of 'guesses'. Since it is a security device I would think that there could be. Just call your dealer's service department and ask. Mine called me back within an hour with the number.

The PIN should be kept confidential to the owner since it overrides security features for starting the bike without having the correct key (or key without a fucntioning electronic security code). It would be like your bank teller setting up your PIN for your electronic banking.

My point exactly. I can't come up with any reasonable explanation for them to set it.

I don't know who set it , but mine was the last four of my VIN. There's no limit to " guesses " . Enter them , it says " correct " , then you change it to whatever you want.

The reason I wondered about guesses was because of a statement made on page 178 of the manual. Seems that the number of attempts is limited if you need to enter a code to start the bike due to animmobilized malfunction. I thought perhaps the same may hold true when trying to reset the code, even though the manual makes no such claim in the reset code procedure.
