Our temps here average 25c or 70f and in the summer (most of the year) we see temps in excess of 35c or 95f. Our roads are very course, they feel much like sandpaper as far as grip.

Also, oUr roads are mostly very coarse. They are not hotmix/bitumen. They are made by spraying asphalt and pouring gravel on it. As cars drive over them, over time the gravel gets embedded, making a proper road (and for the first few months until then it is basically loose gravel all over).
So the road is very spiky and coarse. This means extra abrasive but with lower tyre temperature overall (all the bad components, eh) :)
Hence SP would perform a lot better. But, even then, SC performance (in the dry fast road riding) is not bad at all.

They run it very similar all around were I live. Places like high traffic old two lane highways they do the same but roller another coat of the tar on top to seal it. It melts right in and is just a course. We have to stay off them for at least 2 weeks when they are doing it.

They mostly do it in the summer when the blacktop gets well over 100f, this way it bakes it right in. Sucks when you run into an area they are working on. It feels slippery for the first few weeks because of the oil based tar they use.

Back on topic...I'm getting on average about 1800mi for each set of OEM tires. Once they blue all over it's downhill from there for about 300-500mi then they are toast at 1800-ish.

edit: Considering I have the sag & geometry set up I have done for these tires its not worth the opportunity cost of my time to experiment with other tires given that I'm not tracking the bike. Very happy with the street performance of these tires aside from the mileage.

Dude you need to try the Q3's

The small change you may like in geometry. They improved every bike Ive been on. My 848 loved them.
 
I agree with the tire pressure. I went through a front pretty fast, learned to drop the pressure down. Currently at 30psi. Have gone as low as 28.
 
Just my two cents, the q3's are good tires, on the street, some of the purple inhave talked to love them, the only downside being at the track if you run them hot enough you will find their weakness.... I haven't tried them and am a fan of the supercorsas so take that for what it is
 
bang for buck the Q3's are a good tyre no question, have them on my R1. However i still feel the Pirelli rosso corsa is a better steering/feeling tyre and is what i have in the pani now and will be going back to after two sets of Q3's on my R1.

another option....worth a look, and can get in a 200/55 (I know the Q3 is a wide tyre but it's still not the same load rating....which might be a factor if you crash and insurance ask questions)
 
I was reading through the manual on the "R" and saw that it has a specific traction control setting of #1 for the Supercorse SC/2 tires.
 
I just put on a set of the Supercorse SC2 tires on my "R"! We went out on a short canyon run close to my home yesterday to scrub them in and to put the first heat cycle through them.

They felt amazing from the second I left! In the corners I was amazed at the feel in the front and back. They grip so much better then the stock Supercorse SP tires that I just replaced them with.

I will have a better evaluation on them after we get back from gumming them up real good.

I'm embarassed to say this, but I'm on a little over 6k on my original tires. I thought I've been ripping the turns up pretty good but you guys put me to shame... :confused:

Our roads are like sandpaper. It just eats the tires the faster you ride.

I have found the same with the SC1 front and back I now have. It is a real difference to the SP's that I used to use. OEM that is.

I did 388km the other day on a hot day and they felt like superglue. I know they will not last as long though. But I do not commute on this bike.
 
Other than the 3,000 miles during break-in period for the bike, I'm one of the guys that was getting the worst mileage out of the SCs - 1,000-to-1,500 miles per set. As a comparison, after two sets of Dunlop Q3s, I am consistently getting about 3,000 miles out of a set (no track days) and a little less with a few track days in the mix. Much better than I originally thought.
(For road riding, I get around to changing tires when the wear-bars indicate that I should have changed them about 250 miles back.)
As noted in previous posts, the relative aggressive nature of the road surface you ride on is another factor in how fast your tires wear; it is not just how aggressive you ride. For example, chip-and-seal surfaces (like those around NW Arkansas) are very hard on tires compared to smooth, asphalt surfaces.

Where do you ride the turns in N.Y New York??? Nothing but stop signs ,lights and traffic..That place drives me crazy!!!! I average around 1200 rear and 2000 front.. Track I get 1-2 days at the most..Expert level..

Mostly around Bear Mountain and further up north. Also did the backroads up to Maine as well as a few routes in and out of CT.
