Plastic pieces found in oil

Thanks for replying blue guy. They have suggested the same. but I haven't seen anything yet. I will keep you posted guys.

Hi,
I am having the same issue and am a bit relieved it is nothing unique.
Has there been a resolution to this? What are these bits and pieces in the oil and what needs to be done if anything?

In my case, the rubber oring from the site cover (clutch )
fell in the sump (they asume, it happened in the fectory ) and got in the drive gear of the water pump. Shaved about a 1/4 of an inch of that drive gear.
It was still functioning, but it's not a safe situation. You know what happened, when the pump fails. It was repaired and covered by Ducati. Well bike was under warranty still. He was saying, something like 5 hours labor. Lol , it was in July. 5 weeks waiting.
At least, you would have plenty of time to do this.
Good luck

Just found some in my drain pan after changing my oil last night. 2012 S.

I've just oil changed a 2012 Panigale with 7000 km on it and found the same small, brown plastic tabs, 6 of them. The engine is raced, and it's been in my care since day one, with oil changes every 1500 km. Never had a trace of crap in the oil before, and I scrutinise the oil carefully like a gold miner panning for gold with every oil change.
I'm stripping another engine fully, but doubt if I'll have time to open this one before testing tomorrow at Barcelona.
It's damn annoying....

they are bearing guides for engine assembly.. ducati claims they harmless but it still freaked me out. I talked to the one rep (eric something) at the ducati revs day at NYST.

Race engine with an oil change every 1500km no bueno

First service 1299s. Ceramic teeth off one if the gears in the timing side of the engine. Good tech found them in the oil. Current bike stripped and awaiting reply from Ducati. Anyone else had this issue or heard of it. The bike was run in correctly.

I had it happen to the water pump on my old 1199s. Not ceramic teeth then though. Was no big deal to repair either.

What?

I endurance race Ducatis. That's 3500 km in one go. I'm not going to oil change the bike during the race.
1500 km is also roughly a full weekend of racing, with free practice, qualifying, warm-up and two races when we're in sprint mode. If modern oil doesn't stand up to 1500 km, then there is a major problem with the oil.

Le Mans, this year. First DNF after 14 hours of leading the Supertwin category. Bugger. Not oil related. I also found the brown tabs in this engine once I'd stripped it. Not too happy about that.

Would you disclose what the reason for the DNF was? I am just curious.

BTW: When I did the oil change at the beginning of this season, some plastic bits still came... And there have been numerous oil changes on my 2012 1199S...

I'm still looking for the reason the rod shells gave up the ghost. The oil pump shaft sometimes snaps, but ours was perfect. I'm testing the fuel and oil, because we're forced to run fuel supplied by the circuit, and I wonder if I wasn't getting some detonation which hammered the rod bearings.
One of my 1199's with 15,000 race km on it and no strip-down...yet...still coughs up plastic bits despite having the bellypan removed every oil change for inspection and cleaning of the strainer. Very annoying.

1299 first service and tech going ceramic timing gear teeth in the sump

Run in as supposed to and no evidence while riding the bike. Needless to say warranty fix involved a strip , all new timing sprockets and endoscopy of the rest of the engine to ensure no other damage. Dealer were flawless in sorting.

WSBK run metal gears instead of plastic, do they sell them to the public?

Here is a picture of my 1299 with the clutch cover removed. How were you able to see any gears in this scenario let alone differentiate the material?

Ok Halo2, Im just giving you a bad time. The correct answer is, yes. The Corse pump pieces are steel. I have a few sets of them along with the pump. Here is a pic of the stock gears and a pic of the Corse gears. If you really want a set, PM me.
