I just saw this thread and think the first few pages of posts might be missing the point. Ducati unveiled the V4 (double L-Twin) in GP in 2002, TWENTY YEARS AGO. The modern V4 that we are accustomed to is derived off the lessons learned as that engine evolved over 15 years. IMO, the point is that the billions spent in MotoGP in the decade prior evolve the bikes we ride today. Sure, maybe only a 4 second split between a MotoGP bike and production V4S, but those last few seconds are exponentially harder to get at the end. I think the race is clever and it shows the technology transfer from racing to the bikes we purchase today at a fraction of the price. I would like to see a few of the top riders throw down V4S times against MotoGP bikes from 10 to 12 years ago.

You only have to look back at a guy called Steve hislop went around donington gp on a 916 quicker than Rossi on a gp bike same year…

Steve Hislop did lap the Donington Park circuit in 2002 on a Ducati Superbike faster than Valentino Rossi did on a Honda Moto GP bike as you say:
2002 British motorcycle Grand Prix - Wikipedia .
Hizzy gets busy in Donington qualifying. .
But I think it was a:
DUCATI 998RS TEAM MONSTERMOB BSB 2002.
As stated in this extract from:
2002 Superbike Scotland Steve Hislop (2) Italy Ducati 998 RS (5) Monstermob Ducati 452 points, 8 wins, 5 poles and 17 podiums from 26 races (1 DNF) .
British Superbike Championship - Wikipedia .
Nevertheless, still a Ducati.
Tom.
