Why's that?

He's very fast but has an ability to throw a bike into a gravel trap and not finish a race, even when a certain rider isn't face planting his back tire.

I'd argue if he was slower but more consistent he'd take the championship.

No good reason. Maybe because so many people seem to fawn over him? 🤷‍♂️

I was never a Rossi fan either.

Cause reasons.

:p

I think he had over a 20 point lead going into the last race.

At 25 he's the oldest(!) MotoGP rider to get a maiden championship win. I suppose that's better than those dudes that peaked in high school sports.

Haha, absolutely!

I think, having a three year old who doesn't sleep, has frazzled my head 🤣

7 wins
6 pole positions
In a season when the top 15 riders are generally lapping within a second of each other.
Looks pretty solid to me.
Wins and poles don’t necessarily equal championships. See Mir’s 2020 championship where he won 1 race.

5 retirements and the first 4 races were abysmal don’t help your situation. There’s another adage, luck is what you make of it.

I prefer: "To finish first, you must first finish" as that is irrefutable.

But in terms of lady luck when winning the title, it could be argued that Mir had better luck than Bagnia: not much consistent competition and a shorter season.

Of course, Marquez being (largely) absent the last 3 years had a big effect... 2023 is likely to be very different!

Doubt it for 93. I think he's 80% done. It's been impressive to see him "compete" at all after so much time off.
<<begin rant>>
What can be said about his riding in 2022, 93 is a wrecking ball. At best he got out in front for some seconds or some laps in brutal hail-marry ways, then went backwards or ditched it in the gravel. I mean how many laps did he do and how many riders did he knock down doing it? There's a stat I'd like to see. 93 should have been removed from the sport in 2015 for the unmatched ....-show he added to the 46 / 99 championship challenge he should have had nothing to do with. He should have been removed from the sport in 2016-2017 for his regular normalized & absurd technique of putting other rider's lives at risk smashing into them to get them out of the way. It was embarrassing at best. As after years of his pampered ........ finally was put an end to and he actually had to ride around other pilots with the recognition of rules applied also to him, he stopped winning so much.
93 is a farce of legend. Dorna took an incredible talent, that 93 is, and made a frankenstein created for show. Too bad for him, too bad for the sport, too bad for everyone who had to endure that shitshow on the track with him. I'm ....... glad it's over and I'll be more glad when I don't have to hear all his irrelevant self touted about by Dorna like a plastic Jesus advertisement. <<end rant>>
Keep tuning in right here for more criticisms insults and 93 bashing, I'll be here all week!

I watched that Amazon thing about the MotoGP 2021 season and Rossi's exit. They showed quite a bit of footage of him dive bombing people in corners and treating them like bumpers on a pool table.

I am not a Marquez fan, but you have to admit he is an extraordinary talent. I also think he is an out of control ........ Just go back and watch Argentina 2018 to illustrate both points.

If he spent the whole season healthy and riding a bike that said anything other than Honda on the side I think that the championship would have looked much different.

Honda was the only manufacturer without a win this season

It’s not like Marc, Pol and Alex aren’t capable of winning races on competitive machinery.

Same boat as Yamaha. They got by on rider talent. Fabio and Marc are exceptional no doubt, but there's been some lack luster innovation and the other manufacturers past them by.

Marc was injured or out for surgery or rehab most of the year. They (Honda) had no where near the caliber of a rider to win.

Maybe if they dropped the single tire nonsense the field would be more diverse.
