Not only that, but also it wouldn’t surprise me if the X’s or 0’s they run in wsbk aren’t identical to the production tires, even if they’re stamped the same.

WSBK runs both the standard off-the-shelf slicks and development versions that aren't available to the general public. Most weekends both types are available to the teams to run.

Sold out already...

It looks like they took a page from Ferrari marketing and called up the people who've spent the most money with them. I'd love to know what they sold for.

They all looked as bad as me when using the launch control.

The other thing I noticed where the many fans and even a leaf blower cooling off the bikes between runs.

I watched it at WDW from the Start / finish line. It was hot as the sun that day. We baked. Area temp was +90F, inside the track temp was near 100F. I was imagining sitting on the bike after the warm up lap in full leathers. They lost kilos of water that day I tell you.

In all fairness, it was 93ºF and sunny that day. Probably a good idea to keep cool air running over the engine after a track session in that kind of weather. Might be best practice (and might explain @RickD996's gear position sensor failures).

Also, I think they shot themselves in the foot by running slicks. I'd assume they were running SC0's or 1's for those track temps. But in reality, if you're going to be running RACE tires they should've upgraded to bigger discs and gone with iron rotors. Or stick to Pirelli TD but they would've probably overcooked those too. Either way, they were stuck between a rock and hard place.

They ran SCX. I talked to the Pirelli chief after the race. Ah actually you can also see in the photos of the bikes pre-race.
He explained something I did not have an understanding of before:
REAR TIRE:
Summer, >90F air track >100F asphalt expands, becomes soft, the stones inside, also expand and lay down, become more flat. This is the least grip the assault provides.
SCX, softest tire.
I added - "also because it was only an 8 lap race?" He said, "no the SCX would have lasted an hour, no problem."
Autumn 65F air 70F Track, asphalt contracts, stones contract, stand up, washed off by rains, track is very aggressive, maximum grip, super warring on tires.
SC2 or even SC3

Damn nice looking bikes if you ask me.

The only price I saw was from when they did the sale in 2018. Bayliss' bike went for ~120,000.

I need to see these replica fairings pop up on Motocambrix.

I am with you Craig

If pecco is doing 1.33 on an off the shelf v4 s

What the hell yamaha and rossi doing with a 10 million dollar budget on gp bikes, going slower?

Something just doest sound right

At cota

GP BIKES 2.03

Moto america Petrux 2.09 v4 RS

Dont know how fast the STT bikes were going

To be fair 2021 wasn't Rossi's best year and Pecco is just coming into his own.

Yamaha gets by on talent, not engineering. Fabio is 1, the next Yammy is what? 20?

Exactly. I’m no subject matter expert, but something’s doesn’t jibe here.

I think the sst guys were running 2’11”ish.

True, but he was still one of the best riders in the world, and the Yamaha gp21 should smoke a stock v4.

Yes, Fabio has talent (maybe more than most), but my understanding is that it has more to do with the rider/bike combo than individual talent or bike superiority.

Give a rider a bike close to his ideal, and the combo will be fast. Lorenzo is a multi world champ - how fast was he on the Honda. Rossi is a multi world champ - how fast was he on the Ducati? Dovi is a three time runner up - if the Yamaha was built to his preference, he’d likely be much closer to Fabio. Alternatively, Dovi on the gp19 might be faster than Fabio on the gp19, even if Fabio is more talented.

Why's that?

He's very fast but has an ability to throw a bike into a gravel trap and not finish a race, even when a certain rider isn't face planting his back tire.

I'd argue if he was slower but more consistent he'd take the championship.
