Heya Jeff it didn't require a separate sprocket carrier. With the flange cover i ended up having it powder coated. In terms of weight savings i didn't weigh them up to compare but holding them both the new set up did feel slightly lighter ( the OEM stuff wasn't all that heavy anyway) I went for the 42 tooth rear sprocket and 525 DID chain. Figured i didn't need a quick change setup as i don't do enough track days to justify it. The gearing i have at the moment works fine at Phillip Island so it doesn't require gearing change between street/track.
All in all i'm very happy with this setup and don't see any sense in going for superlight aluminium stuff which won't save much weight in the scheme of things. Hope this helps and at the end of the day it's only my opinion.
