Hi Guys

I took my 2015 Panigale R to service centre today for its run in service.
I believe a simple oil change

I rode 150 miles home and then checked the oil level

I left the bike for 3 hours before checking the level

The oil is above the top line in the window.

Should I be overly concerned that they have put too much oil in or am I worrying over nothing

thanks

Phill

I would be very concerned....this is a common mistake dealers do.....SMH.... Too much oil is an issue how far above the line is it??

Too much isn't a good thing. Get a turkey baster and take a bit out at a time. Did you go to Eurosports or Ferracci?

Im in the UK - I was not told that my R drinks oil and so had not checked it before riding to Edinburgh. Luckily I have not caused any issues. But when I got home checked it and noticed it was a little over the top line

I had done 150 miles - they did say that the R drinks oil initially but improves.

The manual is not clear and during my handover oil was not even mentioned.

I am meant to check it every 200 miles - I will be checking it before going out every ride from now on

But I think the turkey baster is a good idea

Its only a couple mil over the top line but i suspect it may have had more in when i rode away

Drain some out - if you use the tach at all, see rev limiter or just simply enjoy taching up the motor going thru the gears (full rpm, redline/shift light shifts), you'll want to get the oil to the middle or towards the lower level line - mine has been blowing out "excess" oil thru the crank case breather....dumping it in the air box, then while parked on the side stand, it dribbles out thru the drain tube from the air box down to the bottom of the bike - annoying & unsettling, more a nuisance than a problem....but oil level means everything

5 and 5. Standard procedure on just about every engine I know. And completely unknown on this forum. A couple mm over the line is nothing. Nothing. Big DOHC heads can hold a lot of oil on top.

Start the bike and run it for 5 min.

Shut it down and wait 5 min.

Check oil level.

I was going to say. If you lean it over or you're checking it on a stand it will read different. At the very least, start it and take it for a couple of laps around the block and recheck.

Dunno where the "drinks oil" myth springs from. I've got about 3.5k miles on mine now and its done maybe 6 or 7 track days in amongst its commuting duties. It has been topped up once in all that time and that was only about 100ml in the last 150 miles.

too much is a concern. these bikes do burn oil but me personally would rather add before i leave for a ride than but in too much and hope it burns.

If it's actually a couple of mm over the line, then I would guess we are actually talking about 20 ml overfilled (tops) in real terms.
What you are talking about is nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of things.
It will almost certainly burn some oil and come down below the top line anyway.

It would be a different story if the oil level was above the top of the sight glass.
Then I would definitely be taking some out.

It's not unusual to run a race bike overfilled, so don't worry.

Enjoy:)

No worries. The shop and you might have slightly different ways of supporting the bike while checking. I'm sure they put in the correct amount of oil. Probably not all the old oil completey drained out which is near impossible unless it's warm and you leave draining a long time.
