Radiator Guards?

Thanks beanflicker, this looks much better than the commercial ones released so far and I'm going to give your design a try. Looks like its a lot less restrictive in terms of airflow. Given the amount of heat generated below 40mph, have you noticed any negative effect on cooling efficiency?

No problems that I can recall.

Temps are running same as my R1 give or take a degree.

one qustion beanflicker did you take off the black shroud? just taken off the fairings and not sure whether i needed to remove all under nose fairings and the black shroud
cheers for advice

No. I didn't remove the black shroud as the expansion tank for the rad is moulded into the right-hand side (off-side).

I was careful to get the top rad guard into position by gently bending it out of shape and allowing it to squeeze between rad and moulding.

Here's a pic of the lower so you can see where I drilled the plastic for the lockwire.

so basically the guard does not sit behind the shroud all way round? just tucked in at top and bottom and flush at the sides?
Cheers

The top guard fits in behind the shroud edges(sides), under the folding flaps at the top of the rad. It fits in behind what appears to be a hinged plastic flap.
The bottom of the top rad guard sits on the top part of the lower rad shroud.
Effectively, once in place it can't move from side to side nor up or down.

The lower rad guard sits in the aperture of the shroud. Look closely at the lower shroud on your bike and you see what looks like a flat area about 10mm deep on the shroud itself. By making the guard 8mm deep you can then set it into this aperture and secure using the lockwire. It cant move in any direction once locked in place.

If you need more pics I'll try to do at week-end.

top piece done perfect dimensions thanks beanflicker rad tomorrow will post pics when complete, thanks again bean

Made top piece earlier in the week and now just completed bottom guard tonight. Will fit tomorrow. Thanks!

Sweet.!

Look forward to seeing the end results....:)

Just to confirm, re the lower guard, the 8mm sides just act as a stand-off between the rad and the front face of the guard, right? There's an 8mm gap between the guard and the rad beneath. The 8mm sides rest on the face of the rad.

So if i understand it correctly, i could fit the guard without removing the fairings, but for the lock wire.

Completed my bike today. Looks really good and now I've got the templates and holes, I can replace the guards whenever I like. Thanks for the heads-up on this.
