I also think you have to look at things in proper context. “Hitting the redline” and whatnot then sitting at a stoplight before pulling in for that espresso and crumb cake isn’t anything close to an all out effort by a “good rider” at a competitive pace for 20 lap runs at consecutive races. Certainly not saying that a stock R can’t do that however the 2 RS motors I bought and tore down (for parts) were well worn even with the required refresh cycle. The competition “refresh” cycle I’m sure is different for a super stock application than a full SBK run but I’m guessing a lot depends on the accurate description of what the rider was really asking of the engine. All that being said, I’m guessing this was an anomaly.

I assume that we are getting to the hp limit with current tech regarding the balance between longevity required on the street vs hp required by the track. On an 3 hour street ride you realistically might spend 1% of your time in the redline area, on a track Im guessing that its 20% plus and its WOT pretty much all the time, that's hard work.

Based on the costs, yes. They could make these engines more reliable for street use, and slightly more reliable for racing.

That's quite accurate percentage wise obviously depends on rider and what track. I have a HP4 race and it is recommended to replace the engine after 5,000 KLM but that is based on full hard track riding but I'm confident I can push that out to 7,000 because I only rev it out to 12-13 on a track day where our racebikes run at full throttle most of the time. My V4R is also track day only and only gets run at around 13-14 so should last longer before rebuilds. I generally think these bikes are very reliable as a street bike.

Bought a used engine for 4200€ with 2k street, took about a day to remove it and a day and half to put everything back

QD but not the best, mainly I choose it for dB. Many tracks have dB limit 98. Otherwise I am removing it end of the summer.

What times are you running there?
I was never able to ride there when I was still in Germany, but my buddies keep going there.

I think they’re happy to crack the 1:50s

prost!

Best is 1:51, but working on getting to 1:49 this year

Stunning bike, I have the Akra but a lot of problems with noise. In SPA it's 100dB, no chance there, the exhaust your running is QD you say, can you show a picture from the other side please.
QD is an Italian manufacture is that correct? Thanks.

Hey, mhaddad, I can't find any info on their website about the dB value. Do you have a figure?

This thread obviously triggered me so now not only am I paralyzed in fear abt leaving my house even with a mask, but now I’m losing sleep abt potential catastrophic failure inside my V4.

At this point I’m planning to renew oil every 1,000 miles since it looks toast. Am I just wasting my time cause oil really does stay good for 7,000 miles like my service writer insists?
I do ride the bike hard and I ride it a lot.

The Motul DOT 5.1 held up decently over 1,000 miles but it’s definitely looking a little toasty and will be renewed with RBF660 and plan to refresh both brakes and clutch action fluids every 1k miles

How abt DESMO services? Ducati claims 15,000 miles but I’m thinking 7,500 miles for the full service. I’ve been riding with the fast group.

I guess you could tell me to park the Duc and display it like the piece of art it is and go out and buy a jap bike. But I love riding my Duc, I’d rather spend the money to have a spare V4 engine sitting on the bench for when the “opportunity arises” to swap the engine. And that sounds like the only true solution to overcome my heart stopping fear of nuking my engine
Do you guys have any recommendations for V4 specific engine stands or do I have to go bug the service center at my dealership?

Unless it's a track/race bike, no need for a desmo service at 7500. Hell, probably not even at 15k either. Majority of folks who have had the service done have almost all come back within spec, at least on the L-twin models so if you're gonna do it, you can wait for 15k. The oil change, maybe every 2500 if that but every 1000 is excessive for a street bike. Put some motul 300v in there n forget about it.
