important is relative.
peace of mind important or life on the line important? 'd say somewhere in between.

when i had my valve cover leak at the track, i got a little oil on the rear tire... i was lucky since it was towards the end of the session...

you can go without for sure. but do you want to find out you couldn't?

PSA:

i missed one thing on the ...391 bolts.

the manufacturer made them with a M2.5 thread, whereas they need a M3 thread.
interestingly my 3D model and my drawing both say M3....

what i will do is contact him and have him redo the set.

optionally i could also get you all that have installed them already a M2.5 screw to put in instead.

sorry about the inconvenience. i can't explain how i overlooked it.

I will be leaving the country for 5 days but I will keep you guys posted on the solution

this thread is for the newer gen panigale.

same purpose:

lighter valve cover bolts, with safety-wire holes for added safety against leakage.

the set contains 3 different bolt types and 10 bolts in total.

next step: arrival of original bolts and redesign in cad, then submission to manufacturer for quoting.

these bolts are different from the 8&1199, so here we go. plenty of interest in the other thread, this one is specific for the newer models.

Wouldn't fit 2016 Panigale 1199R since almost everything is similar to 1299? Except for the Race engine.

+1, Interested in retaining M3 thread solution for horizontal cyl head.

Will cut the threads into the bolts I have here and ship them out.

Upside of minimum order quantities...

I am back at work tomorrow and should be able to use one of the 2 lathes there.

In the meantime, if you are in a hurry to get those installed and have an M3 tap, you could give it a shot yourselves. If it doesn't work out, the ones from me are coming.

Cut the first m3 thread today. First 5 mm were fine. Then, a bit deeper was ok. Other direction- snap. Tap broke off. Toolshop guy not happy. Will come back tomorrow.

ohhh man...

Dear Phl

Now the chaos seems to grow even more....
My 8 bolts have M3. I can't check the other 8, 4 went to Sutki, 4 to a friend of mine.

The regular hex bolts are too short, they fit 1199, but not 1299.
They should be 37mm instead of 33mm because of the thicker valve covers of the newer bikes.

oh lordy ...

would it work to use the cylindrical head bolt (xxx641) instead? that should have the right length for the 1299 covers.

how much thread interlock are we looking at here?
