SBU V4R Superbike Build

Honestly if I could get my hands on the steering dampener and fuel tank from the RS, I'd be happy. The former has been annoying, I was hoping ohlins could at least provide a part number for the dampener and I could just fab up the mounting, but they never responded to my emails. Ducati Omaha says there are dealers authorized to sell Corse parts (like things found on the RS) but I haven't been able to find a list of them. Tried to contact Ducati for a list of vendors US or abroad and they won't respond either. Tough for the little guy to cop trick parts these days :(

Maverick, is that your build? looks great. Good choice on the TK rotors. Those guys are great to work with. There are quite a few who bought RS parts for the 99s from various people but current pieces are difficult to come by. Additionally at least for me I have found most of the pieces to be part of a modular puzzle of "kit" that really works best with the rest of the pieces. I'm in the process of finishing up a complete F-18 intake system that I have had to hunt pieces having received the bulk of it from Codex. There is another member here who has been painstakingly piecing together a super stock electronics kit. I did source complete RS motors F-16 and F-18 "used" (probably questionable) and a bunch of engine parts (cams, pistons, starters etc)from the common sources (Codex and Forza) and that is all left over stuff that has been sold by teams etc and again, a lot of this stuff is not plug and play and you end up getting something and realizing that its a fairly big project to make it work. If you really want to source kit pieces for the V4, it is possible but super difficult mainly because there just isn't a lot of it as it is a new platform and again it is really modular in application. Good to also consider that the corse pieces aren't some, unobtainium magic. The pieces are excellent quality but at the end of the day, they are just parts and pieces any good CNC shop could make and there are many companies making like components. I will say that the cost of the corse/RS pieces in my opinion are extremely overpriced for what they are.

Not my build, that's a shot of Kyle Wymans MotoAmerica RS. He's one of the few people who actually takes quite a few pics of the bike naked. I really like how the steering damper is relocated, seems to be much more resistant to snapping like the bracket for the current one is. I'm not too hopeful on the fuel tank since, like you said, I'm sure it requires a bunch of other ........ to work/be installed properly. But I really want that damn dampener, haha.

I had the same issue back in 06. I wanted the factory kit side damper and it was impossible to find. Once I finally found one I realized it wasnt anything special it was just a generic ohlins damper in a specific length. So all you need is to find out how long it needs to be then fiqure out what length Ohlins made the damper in and your set.

Here is my factory race kit damper on my Kawi. Its just a Ohlins SD1400
It looks like it might be the same length.

That Kawi looks beautifully simple. Great pic. I didn't recognize Kyle's bike. I saw it in the pits at Laguna and took some pics. That tank setup he had was not kitted. They had that made and it looked pretty decent until he smashed it. The tank on the Barni bike and the Aruba bike are different. I'm guessing the SBK guys have the tanks made to their spec as opposed to a catalog tank. And yes that would be a long way from a "bolt on".

Call the owner of Ducati Detroit and if not him contact the owner of Chicago Motorworks in Chicago, they know each other. Between the two of them, they can find out who you need to speak to get the parts you need. If that doesn't work private message me and I have a Super Hero former NBA player that I can call and Ducati will answer him.

That actually helps a lot, I think the 140mm looks like the right size. Also looks like a few Ducati models have used that same damper in the same exact setup as on the RS, might have an opportunity to pick up a used one for cheap.

The Desmo RR used a side mounted damper might be the same one.

Doubtful, as that's the SD193, a discontinued part. But, it also had 140mm stroke, so that helps confirm what I need. The Monster S4R and others around that timeframe had a side mounted 140mm stroke damper that looks damn near identical, will probably pick an ebay one up so the pain if it doesn't fit isn't too intense.
