SC Project S1 - 2016 1299s

I don't mess around when it comes to tuning/fueling. Thus, I didn't mess with the generic up-map. Nothing was changed. The following was used for both:

-Rapidbike Race Module
-Rapidbike YouTune
-Rapidbike CANBUS Wideband o2 sensors
-Sprint Filter

You won't be saving much weight because the SC is still stainless.

I think you're shortchanging the Akrapovic exhaust a bit here.

While I agree that exhaust manufacturers obviously have an advantage in mass producing units in a timely fashion as well as titanium not costing that much, the company has stated that this exhaust for the Panigale was by far the most difficult to make. It is one of the reasons why they took forever to make them for the Panigale.

Racing them may have a different effect on the headers breaking but I don't see this as a common issue. Maybe a one off type of problem.

Fact is, it's all about supply and demand. Look at where the old termi system is. You can get the full system for like $1700 brand new from designcorse. That system was literally double that price when there was no other option. Once Akrapovic came out, it killed the brand and its relations with Ducati. Now they can't get rid of it for half the price and it comes with the upmap whereas the evo system does not.

The SC exhaust does sound nice but it simply doesn't flow with the lines of the bike. Just looks out of place a bit. If there were no sound regulations for track, racing and even street riding, mayyyybe. In the end, it's all a preference. Hell, I spent $3400 on my Evo system for no other reason than sound so go figure.

Yep, you are right. Most of my time with the bike is spent at the track.. well technically, if I were to be more accurate, it has only ever seen my neighborhood streets (for testing) and 100% of the remaining miles have all been @ COTA. Sitting around 1k or so thus far.. ;)

Now, if the Akra was around $17-2200, I would consider that to be reasonable and probably just go that route. Although, the broken headers would still be of a concern, but I could swallow a broken one at that price point.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Akra system looks waaay better than the SC, and it sounds pretty damn good to boot. Although, the SC's I've heard at the track sound downright mean! When they fire up, it's like awakening the beast... and that is just at idle.

I'm curious how much difference there was. Do you still have charts by chance? Also, was mapping/fueling changed between the two? Wide/narrow band sensors used?

The Akra with the pre-defined upmap would most likely outperform another/different exhaust with the same mapping in place. And, if only tuning with narrow-band sensors, wouldn't be able to get a solid AFR of around 12.8-13.2 for ideal power output through the whole range across both cylinders.

All things being equal, the Akra may just have better flow characteristics than the other options, but if equally tuned, I can't imagine they'd be all that far off from each other. At the end of the day, the power gains are nice, but I'd honestly be more interested in the overall weight savings over the stock setup. The bike already puts out impressive numbers and I have yet to fully harness all that is there.

I live just north of Austin. I won't be back stateside until April but when I get back you're more than welcome to check mine out. We can throw the other pipe on your bike to see if you like it as well.

You don't think without the cats and xtra cans it would be saving much? I don't pretend to know the numbers, but I assumed it would be a fair amount.

On my RC8, I swapped out the stock exhaust for a stainless unit that was much more compact (basically just pipe and small can). When I weighed them up, the difference was a little over 18lbs. It was pretty significant.

Not expecting anything like that, but I'd be pretty happy if I got 5-8lbs, if that was possible.

The savings over this and OEM was right at 5-8 lbs.

I want to say we lost around 13-15 lbs overall with the Akra.

That's awesome man! I'm in Round Rock, just north of Austin as well. I may have to hit you up around then, unless I go with something else before cota in March..

I also have a set of OEM headers set up for widebands if you want to go with something other than an Akra but still want a proper tune.

I put up a lot of detail in various posts when I fitted the Akra. I detailed all the weight savings and also took some sound measurements at 1 metre at idle and at 5000 rpm.
from memory I paid $3400 USD from MotoMummy. Did before and after dyno charts and then Wayne did a custom dyno tune using TB. All done about 2 years ago.

You either pay for the Ti or get the SS for less. No point fantasising about cheap akra. No such thing. Search my posts. Lots of detail there.

And no problems ever with anything breaking.

There's a reason why Akrapovic are now the prefered vendor for Ducati aftermarket exhausts..........

I'll have to check it out. As mentioned in the original thread, looking more for experiences with the SC system, not the Akra.

No fantasizing here.. It's just some bent pipe in Ti. Other than it looks good, sounds good, I just don't see the value in the Ti personally. I might cave and pony up, but probably not. Just drop 10lbs off my fat ass and call it a day.

I am trying to lose weight too. Lot cheaper than spending money on Ti. But at my age it's more about stopping the onset of Type 2 diabetes. :)

Not mine, but looking pretty neat to me, except that it really sounds loud. But i might buy it for my Panigale after the break in is done.
