School me on RapidBike

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I do have a Power Commander on the Grom with custom dyno tunes for U4.4 and MR12 (with a map switch on the bars).

Along with a Quickshifter. :D

That's not what we are doing though.

It will by dyno tuned immediately. And my tuner likes to go in and program each gear, each throttle position, etc.

I don't want any kind of auto-tuning thing. I want something that is easily programmable like the Power Commander.

The PCV can be programmed per gear per throttle opening, the RapidBike can not.

Haha, tuneboy, I thought that too, but
The capabilities outweighs the sound of the name.

I think the ducshop guys in ATL also know TB and what to do with it...

Who is your Tuner Chris ?

Brian Livengood at Livengood Motorsports.

Ok, I am sure you know Eric Dorn @ EDR , he has been using / tuning a lot of our RB systems for many race bikes now. Give him a call , I am sure he'll give you some in dept info. He is one of the best we trust ! but if you have any specific questions, just e-mail me [email protected].

So if I understand this correctly, I can go buy any aftermarket exhaust, bolt it on, not worry about exhaust proprietary up-maps and the the RapidBike will auto tune for the best possible performance...

Do I still need to go visit my Ducati Service Dept.?

Does anyone have installation and operation instructions?

Shoot me a P.M. I will send you what I have.

I think Rapidbike has come up with a good product, especially for those without access to GOOD tuners. But generally speaking, here's my comparison in a nutshell:

Rapidbike: autotune is cool, but it is more than twice the cost of Tuneboy's kit (which costs even less if you have a friend with the Wifi unit). You also get the joy of tearing your bike apart to install the wiring harness. Not rocket science, I've done plenty of PCV and Bazzaz installs, but it does take up several hours.

Tuneboy: steep software learning curve. But there are some very cool features, and you only have to buy the wifi unit once, which means I only have to buy software keys when I start doing my Multistrada. Mechancally....find interface plug in the tail, plug in unit. That was one of the biggest selling points for me - direct ECU reprogramming, versus a piggyback unit.

Oh yeah, I know Eric. I talk to him quite a bit. Thanks. :)

The main question I have is the original question from my first post, which is still yet to be answered...which one of those units (linked in my first post) do I need?

Which one will allow my tuner to dyno tune the bike the way he wants?

Go with the race unit. The race unit allows for ignition map manipulation using the pick-up signal management for an accurate control of injection and spark advance timing. There are other features, but that's the biggie.

Thanks.

So that is the top one, the "885"? It is the one that has "racing" in the description.

I can't. I am in Ghana (Africa) and the phones suck where I am. They are supposed to get me a new work phone but I haven't gotten in yet.

I have to place the order online.
