I'm new to Ducati. I started this thread to get more info on others experience as well as tell you mine.

Took my 1199s/ABS into the dealer today for its first service.
The good news was, after the first service full power is then unlocked I'm told!!
Was something about it being setup by Ducati to electronically release full power
To the ecu via first service.

Bad news, I never saw the mechanic remove the body panels. Normal?
Funny smelling oil all over my rear wheel and swing arm? Could be a sloppy job of chain lube. Had steam or white smoke coming up the front cowlings? Was rainy but prior to service I drove it in light rain not by choice and there was no smoke or steam.
After hearing about someones rear wheel coming loose I had him check the torque on those nuts. Was not allowed in the work area so did not see much.

After the engine was fully cold I checked the oil level. Looks to be over full!
It so far above the Max level notch its a full fish tank on the sight glass with bike levelled.

Not to impressed with the results here. Am I missing something?

Not ideal, by any stretch of the imagination.

Personally, I would suck a little oil out - through the filler if possible. Overfill is as bad as under fill.

Tech must have removed the belly pan panels to change the filter - maybe you didn't see the bike low down?

As for the smoke and smell, maybe they got engine oil all over the place and cleaned it of with WD40 or the like. That would def smoke white during burn off, as the bike warms up.

For me, I would HATE not being allowed in the work area. I just like to see how they work, until some trust is built up!

They don't actually change the power delivery at the first service, you have say performance as out of the box, at least for the US, it was something was discussed by ducati at one time, but that would require getting your bike serviced at a dealer, so that idea was abandoned. Maybe they changed riding modes.

On this motor, the oil filter is a cartridge type and is accessed on the side of the sump. It's very easy for oil to leak out on the pipes during the filter change out, so a little smoke wouldn't be surprising.

Overfilling, that's pretty inexcusable, I'd get a large syringe, attach some fuel line to it. stick it in the oil filler and pull some out.

I should have asked to see the old filter! Will be taking my bike to the original dealer where I purchased it next time (melillimoto). Just wanted to ride sooner than later. Would have been a 2hour drive to ocala. Live and learn right.

Was not allowed in the work area but it looked like dude was rubbing something of with a rag and reinstalled it on the left side. I could be wrong though. Bottom line, no trust was built in this experience. Any bike should be be worked on with the upmost care and attention to detail. After serving 9 years as a jet engine mechanic and inspector my standards may not be the norm at Florida Sports ATV. very nice folks, was just the service to the bike that left me very unhappy.

My dealer put slightly more oil in at the first service as I used a litre of oil prior to the service, and they did this on purpose, I was concerned at all, as guess what, it's back down to half max level now... And hasn't done any harm. Although they didn't massively over fill it, and would have been bit concerned if the glass was completely full of oil.

Just another point, I stick a spirit level on the handle bars, just to make sure the bike is completely level before gettin right down to check the oil levels, as believe me the reading can be so inaccurate otherwise, just a point.

The sight glass is a deep sea fish tank now. Its covered before the bike is even level bro.

Never trust a shop that won't allow you to see the area where work is performed.

Fair one! Sounds nasty!

And yes the workshop at the dealer I go to has windows everywhere so you can see everything, does give you nice feeling of confidence.

I'm going to have my own bike mechanic do the service with me. That
Shouldn't void the warranty I hope.

They must have invisible rubber mallets .... for the delicate jobs, that nobody needs to see :p

Was at my dealer the other day picking up a comfort seat. Asked about the cost of the first service. $178.00. Not bad at all. It'll be a little more to upgrade the oil to full synthetic , but it's worth it imo.

Ducati Sandton South Africa traded in my motorcycle. Part to use as booking deposit on a 1199 Panigale ABS and the balance "back to client". Everything in writing. Almost two weeks after taking the goods still no payment. When pressed about payment Gavin Pietersen claimed he cannot afford payment because they are indebted to a factory. After a heated discussion, with insults flying back and forth,Gavin Pietersen unilaterally cancelled the purchase as well as booking for Panigale. Attitude of Gavin Pietersen towards me was despicable and all attempts to solve the issue was disregarded. This dealership is not exclusive, there are better options in Edenvale and Pretoria. Be smart and take your business elsewhere. Ducati is a fantastic brand and product, but is being let down.

my total was $300 at Florida Sports & ATV

I got a chance to talk to the master tech "Keith". he was a super cool guy and really explained as much as he could about the bike. He did another look over on the bike and in the end I felt good about it.
They should have him talking to all the customers that come through there. He leaves you with no questions not answered or you scratching your head!

may get another bike for learning on the track.
