Hi Folks.
I am new to this forum and new to Ducati's. Just taken delivery of a Panigale Tricolore today but am shocked by what i have just read on ebay!!
Can anyone clarify this guys comments?
I really do hope this is not true...........:confused::confused:

Here is the text:

Selling my 1199 panigale S. Low mileage, as new.

Only had it 2 weeks and selling it for something less ducati. If you love two stroke bikes, you'll love the panigale. It is completely devoid of any midrange power whatsoever. It EVEN burns oil like a two stroke! I will provide a litre of fully synthetic oil for the new owner, as you'll need it within the next 500 miles.

This would look great in anyones living room, which is the best place for it as it looks pretty ridiculous when stationary at the front of a queue of traffic after it has inevitably stalled on you for no other reason except it felt like it. This bike isn't completely turd, it does have one or two of the features that all other superbikes have in bucketloads at a far cheaper price. The top end rush is mental for a V twin, its just a shame you have to sit your way through the gaping chasm of a midrange flatspot until it hits 8000rpm. If whilse filtering through traffic a car should decide to U turn in front of you (as they do) then prepare for impact. Open the throttle and the bike will cough and splutter like an RGV250 whose main jets have fallen out.

Would suit rich people who have other modes of decent transport along with a selection of other fussy expensive overpriced vehicles/horses. No test pilots, no ridiculous offers, no part exchanges as I've already bought an Aprilia rsv4 which is twice the bike and left enough money spare to buy loads of other nice things.

Don't believe everything you read.
I LOVE the performance of my bike. I am also new to Ducati after riding for 29 years and having many other bikes: water-cooled parallel twins (two strokes), air- and water-cooled inline fours, air-cooled V-twin, water-cooled V-4s (two-stroke and four stroke), water-cooled triples, and now a water-cooled V-twin.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I too have been through the list but hopefully the Panigale will top it all off!

Yamaha R1 CrossPlane, BMW S1000RR, Aprilia RSV4 APRC etc
The Aprilia tops it so far for me, lets hope that all changes when I get out on my new beast!

pani for sale

with a description like that he's obviously trying to put off potential buyers maybe he does not really want to sell it !
cannot fault my base model so far its as good or better than all my previous bikes gsxr750, mvf4, gsxr1000 done 615 miles and no sign of burning any oil service due next week then track day at silverstone

That cannot be a real ad. Just classified, does not accept bids. On local ebay I can sell for free. No one who wants to sell ANYTHING is going to say it's a .... box when they are selling it.

Ducati for whatever reason has a very strong base of haters, more then any other brand.
A ducati owner has to have strength in knowing he purchased what he loves not what everybody else thinks is cool. If you are intimidated easy then this is not the bike for you. One must stand by his convictions, not blindly but honestly.

It does seem odd to try and sell something with such a poor description. If I didn't like it, and just wanted to sell, I would give a straight-forward, factual description and let the buyer decide. However, if it is a real ad, someone should get a good bargain, as it is £3,000 under UK list price.

Scotsdude, the bikes do tend to have a higher engine oil consumption in the early stages (first 600 miles or so) but this is a known issue that was flagged up by Ducati to dealers and buyers - my dealer showed me the letter that came from Ducati when I took delivery.

I've done 700 miles and only put <200 mls in mine over 3 weeks ago (I've had the bike over a month). The cutting out issues are a well-known Ducati quirk (see the other thread on this issue). It's happened twice to me, but both at very low mileages and only in wet mode (I do ride in the rain - living in the UK doesn't give you much choice).

The power delivery is very different to previous Ducatis, more power in the upper rev range (where it is frankly mental), less grunt lower down, but having owned an 1198S before this one, I actually like the fact you can keep the front wheel down more, especially coming out of corners. You just have to work the gear box more to get the most out of it but there is more than enough useable power for the road; on-track you can do what you like:D - see some of the track day reports.

Anyway, hope you get on your bike soon (so to speak...) and enjoy it.

Welcome fella and congratulations on being a proud owner of the Tri. I'm in the highlands and still waiting on my 1199, where're you based?
Dinnae fret pet, the bike is what you make of it - don't believe the hype of the minority
Keep Smilin :D

thanks for sharing!

what a pu55y ...

he bought a diva. should have known. good luck to him with his ape (which i also like very much)

This is a dream bike on the open road. It's too scary to be running it at 100% but you feel like you have endless power. The dip in the torque curve is flattened out by the Termi Slipons and you can just roll on and off the throttle from 100kph in 6th and the power seems to keep on coming, with a mad rush at the top end. It takes ages to trust the fact that it handles just so well, to test anything near the limits. The side stand is easy to use as well!

i cannot imagine how narrow-minded one can be to not appreciate this new characteristics of this ducati. maybe the guy had a really bad day...

My only negative on the bike is HEAT.
All other is just normal things. Bike isn't perfect, but far more perfect than any bike I have previously owned. I do admit to liking two strokes. Mine smoked very little and never added any oil after 1400 miles. I did almost chew through the rear tire. Not sure how to avoid that other than going slow.
It's not like there is no power below 8K RPM, just a .... load more above it.
It's definitely not the bike for everyone. I had second thoughts, glad I stuck with it as it is just an awesome piece of machinery. Easy to ride fast. Looks great. Light weight, etc.

Not all 1199s burn oil, smoke, stall, etc. My 1199S let out a good puff of smoke when I picked it up at the dealer, but I haven't seen any since. It has burned zero oil in 1200 miles and has not stalled once. Maybe I was lucky? It is warm though. Great bike. I love it!

1st 60 miles oil was at the bottom of the sight glass, topped it up to the upper marker and it hasn't budged since (619miles) Mines stalled about 4-5 times (the only thing I'm concerned about as I dont want to get rear ended at a junction) and no smoke apart from the very first start up. Looking forward to getting the service out of the way and disconnecting that bloody annoying exhaust valve.

Just hit 700 miles on my tri - broke it in hard and no smoke at all after first day (300 miles). Never stalled, however I did have one instance where I stopped for a minute and on take off the bike seemed to have zero power until I got up in the RPM's. Only happened once and since the first service bikes runs even better in the low RPMs.

topped my oil up after the 1st 200 mile and not had too since, smoked a bit up too the 1st service but nothing after, have the termi slip ons fitted and certainly dont fell any hole in the mid range but there is a noticable kick at 7k. Only stalled on me once so far and ive done over 1000 miles now.
Most powerful and easiest bike ive ever ridden.

First I think the ones who are most concerned about this bike and it's "issues" are people like me who don't have it in our hands yet.
We really need to relax and wait for the day we can really judge this bike.
That said, every Ducati I have ever had has had an issue with shutting down for no reason. The 1098 was the worst. Now I don't mind fighting this stalling issue again BUT when it coincides with hard starting when hot, well that would be a real ......

Hope it all works out. I was called and my bike will be here next week. Fingers crossed.

approaching 1k miles on mine, first 600 miles, added maybe a 100-200 cc nothing since.

It never smoked that I could see, never stalled. Only issue I had was the green loctited shift lever adjuster the tech spent an hour getting that sorted.
