Hi forumites,

I'm in the market for a Panigale and am in need of a FAQ or other reference that will provide me with the specific knowledge I would need of all the updates, and recalls that are applicable to a '12 Base w/ABS where I so lucky as to find one laying around at a dealership in my area.

Should I assume that if said bike was on the 'floor', that it would have had all the updates, heat shield, etc applied? Or, is this something that has to been done after sale, perhaps during the PDI?

And I assume that a '13 will have addressed all issues.

TIA, and I'm looking forward to becoming a Ducatista.

THe above thread should help. When the bike is prepared for delivery to customer, the tech should pdi it, at this time he'd hook it up to the software and check for any updates needed. the heat shield issue, it's tough to say on leftover 12s

Got a 2013 1199 ABS pre heat shield update unit and I still have to change my dash/ecu to V4 recall because of turn signals/horns not working when a certain bike temp is reached.. make sure if you are getting a 2013 that you have the updated dash as changing dashes for the v4 or any revision for that matter would reset the odo. damn ducati and the heat...

Understood, and thanks for the link...perusing it now. But I guess the point of my post is...that I don't know what I don't know! :D I just want to have intelligent questions for the dealer, and not roll off with a bike and then learn here or somewhere else that there was a map, or bolt, or whatever that I need and then have to buzz back to get it. BTW, I live ~100mi from 3-4 different dealers.

And, I want to make this clear, I don't plan to walk in and start spouting bs about what I read on the intertoobs! I just want to be adequately conversant re: the Pani's idiosyncrasies.

TIA,
mike

If you're looking to finance, get a '12 because Ducati pays a good bit of the bike which is great. If you're going to buy outright, I would get the 13. Its the same bike and you're just going to have to ask about each individual bike and what has been done to it.

i guess for the '13 models and the '12ers in the showrooms it should all be fine.

yes, there were a few mirror bolts in the beginning, some rumors about heat, and a broken rear linkage.

the occasional malfunction of the turn signal leads to a dash replacement and the dealers will have figured out how to properly change oil now, without drowning the mufflers in oil and then having the riders play the DOORS' "c'mon baby light my fire"

cheers,

Phil

The bike is fine as is man, don't get caught up with the hype. You will love it.

If you feel the bike is OVERLY hot, get the heatshields. (optional)
If the turn signals or horn wont work, the dash needs replacing. (dealer)
If you have hard start issues, remove the charcoal canister. (yourself)
If you get Termignoni exhaust, make sure to get the latest map (dealer)

The recalls will be done for you before you leave, just make sure to confirm. They will know them all, and its according to your specific VIN.

BOOM! EvoL FTFW!

Thanks guys

Hi guys,

Well I found my bike down in Lex. It's a 5/12 build date. They apparently got the bike last fall, and it's been sitting there waiting for me! It was 'wet', but didn't even have the battery installed yet. That may be SOP, i dunno.

It's being PDI'd today and in the am. Should have very close to zero miles on it when I fire it up and roll off on my backwoods adventure up to Cincy. What would normally be a 75min run up the interstate, will instead be a 2.5hr romp over some of the best roads in our area! Lexington-Paris-Cynthiana, then onto our usual stomping grounds of highways 10 & 22.

It has the new heat shield which I'm perfectly fine with. I'm not going to go mod crazy, but the basics have to be taken care of...Race Seat, some sort of tail tidy, I might go for the CRG Arrows if I find that I really can't tolerate the antennae. Oh, and of course new pegs. Will wait and scarf up rear sets later.

Wish me luck!

Good luck! And keep in mind to put as much load as early as possible on the motor. Search "break in" ;)
