question. whats the difference between RSV4 and Panigale? aren't they are almost the same as $ goes and the repair cost.

True, new they are closer in cost. My Panigale was the Tricolore @ $28k + $8k in extras and RSV4 was about $21k in 2012. But I bought my 2010 RSV4 Factory all preped for the track with 2200mi for $8k. So a big gap in cost and repair/maintenance isn't bad on the RSV4 other than the valve checks that I take it in for.

thats a great deal for $8k!

yeah I track my R currently. I probably continue to track it as I wouldnt buy or use Panigale for street use. lol. :D

It seems like all bikes, including Japanese bikes are creeping up in price...Honda CBR1000RR for example. So, I guess best thing to do is buy used Track bike.

Yea, it was a deal too good to pass up. I was looking at 600's but when that popped up for $8k that quickly changed.

I'd ride the R on the track too but I would be thinking of the possibility of a crash at some point.

It does seem like all bike prices are steadily climbing. If your in the right place at the right time you can find some pretty sweet track prepped bikes that will save you money over building your own.

You don't need to be any expert to see the difference between the slick brands. Pirellis are amazing for the first half day or so of hard use but then drop off considerably, kind of like qualifying slicks. Dunlops stay much the same right until they are completely shredded. Bridgestones are supposedly very similar but I've not used them yet. The street legal versions are very similar in behaviour to the slicks.

So for you guys, how much can you get out of Pirelli slicks? Understand the factors of different rider and different track. Just your experience.

used Dunlop slicks for years.. very grippy.., hard for sure, carcass is really stiff., but great grip.. then started using Michelin slicks ., super soft carcass., feels like an inner tube practically.., as good or better grip than dunlop.., seemed to wear as long or longer maybe.., the Pirellis ive used lately are also amazing.., soft carcass, amazingly grippy.. seemed to wear as long as the others.. laptime dropped off on all these tires after 10-15 laps or so but all still have surprising grip even when near shot.. either way, all these are truly amazing tires.. hard to go wrong with any of them.. miss the days when a tire would last me the day.. but if i had to pick a tire for the rest of time, itd be the pirelli sc1 or 2, then michelin power evo., then uk spec dunlop, lastly us spec dunlop.. when i get sick of life, im gonne slap on some shinko's..

I ran Michelin Power Cup Evo last year and they were awesome. So far on my panigale i've only used supercorsa Sp v2 at 2 track days and had no issues. when i go slicks i'll probably get SC3 compound for longevity and for my slow advance pace they should be fine

8-10 laps and my pace will drop a full second at a 1.7 mile track.

ha being fast problems.

i've been riding Dunlops us compound for a few years now and they are great but i think with the Pirelli you have better front end feel.

To the contrary in my opinion. The Pirellis' (front) carcass is a lot softer and they move around a fair bit under hard braking causing my tail to move sideways in both directions. Dunlops are more stable (at the front) and provide more trust for me. Tail is moving considerably less with Dunlops.

Agree with the above. The Dunlops turned the R from a bit of a loony bike into something that felt as comfortable as my S always has. After using Pirellis for the couple of years I've had the S I've now switched completely to the Dunlops as they feel so much better in hard breaking which is one of the big strengths of the Panigale, and really stabilise the R all round.
