Paid €21,000 [$27,300] in Tenerife, Spain for my base. I felt violated cos I work out of the US & know how much of a premium I paid. Had to have one though.

And this considering Tenerife is cheaper than continental Spain as you don't pay the "impuesto de matriculación" or registration tax like in other spanish islands

The Panigale is expensive in Spain manly because of all kinds of taxes(there is no import duty as Italy and Spain are EU countries). I know it because I live in Spain and have bought a Panigale S ABS.

First there is the "impuesto de matriculación", you pay this tax to register your vehicle and to get your number plate (except in Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla). If you buy a vehicle only for racing purposes you don't pay it, but you won't be allowed to drive it on the street. It ranges from 0% for cars with very low emissions until 14,75% for high emission cars or high power to weight ratio bikes like the Panigale.

This tax is included in the taxable amount and on top of it the VAT is applied which in Spain is 21%. As you can figure out the taxes you pay are more than 35,75% as the first one (impuesto de matriculación) is part of the "selling price", the taxable amount. The fact is the price you pay for a 1199 Panigale includes almost 39% of taxes.

So whilst living here in Spain, in Valencia, only a couple of hundred miles across the mediterranean sea from Italy we pay approximately:

23 500 € for the base 1199 ABS
28 500 € for the 1199 S ABS

at the current exchange rate of some 1,37 EUR/USD

32 200 $ for the base ABS
38 800 $ for the S ABS

I won't put numbers for the R because I only get angrier.

I have got some discount buying my Panigale S ABS in a non official ducati store but as you can imagine still paid a whole load of money.

This is Europe. This is what you get if pump up the administration. You end up with a system squeezes out their citizens. I have been a couple of times in the US and what I like about your country is that you are free to buy and do so much things than here.

It is not only that you pay crazy taxes, it is about charging you more taxes for the 1199 than for a HD just because it has more HP. Why has the government to tell which bike to buy.

I must confess I didn't bother much thinking this was normal, but as I saw US prices I got really angry with this EU sh...

I feel your frustration.

I lived in Germany for 13 years. The prices of stuff and taxes are out of control!

Well,my country wins for the most expensive panigale...All the version above 100k

I'm from Europe living in the US now and I won't have any part of the ridiculous prices over there.
My dealer had a 2013 1199R with 190 miles for sale at $22999 which would cost $34,000 in Europe.
I guess that 19% VAT and various social services should justify this difference

Here in Brazil the cheapest panigale is 80k reais, that is about 35k USB.
Insurance?! Até least 5% of the price.
Americans should thank God é everyday! ;)
