G'day, hope this is not a stupid question to ask. I have a 2014 1199R (awesome bike) just wondering if others run the spark plug recommended by Ducati or if there is another option like an Iridium plug that you can use, thanks in advance.

You might be interested that I put Iridium plugs in my 749, it made a difference to response, but when the outside temperature dropped the bike wouldn't start and I had to put back the standard plugs, also the change from standard ECU to the Termi exhausts ECU also meant that I couldn't use the Iridium plugs, only when the weather was sunny, one guy who raced told me that they were a problem in the 999 and they use to warm up the motor with standard plugs then switch to iridium.
Sorry it this seems long winded to a basic question but the point is I wanted to try them out in my pani as I like the response you get from them and I wonder if anyone else has them in?

The plugs that are fitted to your bike are optimised.
Don't concern yourself with trivial matters and go and ride the thing with a view to a plug change at the 12,000 kms service.

Yea, I have never heard a story about switching plugs after warming up.

Pretty crazy if that was what needed to happen to run properly.

I've seen cold plugs and gap differences but that again seems pretty strange.

Just look at the stock specs and you can get plugs either colder or hotter. You can also change the gap based on a tune, but I am not sure if you gap them narrower or not.

An e-mail to Ducshop would probably solve that issue.

When the Iridium plug run I love them in the 749, it gives it a sharper sound, its possible that my coils need too much juice as they are as old as the bike and with power being drawn by the starter it leaves little for the coils, what happened was I put on a full termi system on my 749 with the matching ecu, the iridium plugs were working fine till then, I fought with the engine to get it started, I called a guy and he asked about the plugs and he said to change back and bang it fired up, since then I played with it and can only get them to work in summer temperatures, another guy told me he had the same with a 999.
