Howdy,
Never had this happen but a bit chilly this weekend at the track, got my SC's nice and hot under the blanket, engine warming up as I suit up, drop the bike and start rolling towards pit lane.....not going further than 6'? WTF?

I see a bunch of people coming over to me, apparently my tires glued to my mat and made a revolution around my rear tire, right on the exhaust above the muffler. A palm sized burn mark on the mat, but the fibers burnt themselves onto the Ti exhaust, leaving a nasty black scab. Can post pictures but I think you get the idea.

I want to clean this mess up, any ideas? Pondering a heat gun and some careful scraping, maybe start the bike up as well, but figured I would throw it out to the forums for suggestions in case there is a better collective idea.

Cheers,
Kev

What do you mean under a blanket ? Do you mean tire warmers? Sounds like the tires were hot and you set the bike down on a bike mat that was cold and it peeled Off?

Yes get as much of the .... off as you can with heat and give the area a nice soak with thinners or ideally acetone, I have used an abrasive pad on my drill with muffler polish to finish off. That area you do will look like new so you may need to do the whole system like I did.

I had to do the same when I melted my right boot onto the Ti headers, just go easy with the abrasive stuff but Ti is pretty tuff.

P21S polishing soap is pretty good at getting out burned in spots. I was warming my hands on a colder ride and touched the pipe with my fingertip without realizing it and left a nice burn in spot, the soap handled it quite well....took a bit of elbow grease as its not and super abrasive soap, but it didn't take away much of the color and now you can't even tell.

Thanks for all the replies, some good options here. Sorry for the slang, they were in tire warmers and it was a cooolllddd track day. Never had even a hint of the tires grabbing the carpeted paddock mat before so surprised the hell out of me.

Have to do an oil change before the weekend, so a good time to pop the rear wheel off and try the solutions mentioned above. Many thanks to those that contributed.

Ouch !!! sorry man

i've used a green outdoor carpet / rug in my pit area before . it's rather thin and it got glued on hot slicks after pit-in, luckily no contact with the exhaust.
