"Super Slip-On" Progress Report

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Gorilla RE and myself have been developing an exhaust system for the 1199. Nearing the final product we thought we would share what we have achieved thus far. Our system utilizes part of the OEM exhaust system for simplicity and ease of install but this doesn't sacrifice power. Mid range gains of around 20hp and 20Tq, with 6hp peak. The power is now much more usable than ever. 1198 grunt with 1199 peak power! Would love to hear what everyone thinks, good and bad.

Patent pending

Our main goals were:
More power everywhere with a focus on the 5-8k dip.
Retain the factory heat shielding, cooling fan, O2 sensors and passenger pegs
Modular design which could be customized easily
Easily install or remove a baffle for reduced sound
Keep the compact sleek look of the motorcycle with a racing style

-The attached pictures are of the left and right sides. We will have full bike pictures shortly.
-Please note this is an early Dyno run and is the same bike, same dyno. The bike was tuned with Bazzaz piggyback, so only fuel was touched. The correction factor is SAE which usually reads lower but the important thing to consider is the delta between the runs. The last dyno is comparing my bike with an 1198, with full exhaust.

Is it REALLY that difficult to make it symetrical and have exhausts coming out of both sides!?!? or at least a replacement lower fairing covering up the open space and clean it up...

Not just you guys but it looks unfinished and ghetto looking on a bike that some poor Italian slaved over the smallest detail to make look right (FROM BOTH SIDES) :D

This by no means is representative of what would be for sale. We are testing our calculations for size and length. A lower fairing is definitely something we can do. We had discussed exits on both sides but because the primaries run on the left side, the exit would be slash cut. Other exhaust already available look similar except not on both sides. We didn't want to copy any other look.

We designed the system with the option to offer different exits. They will be interchangeable.

No, It's not that difficult and it may be an option later on... but they will not be true duals. The collector and configuration is specifically placed where it is for a reason. If we were to change that, we would lose the power gains we have and there would be no point.

I like the idea of a lower panel as an option! But for me personally, I am a big fan of a more "raw" look. I like the exposure of the system, imho it looks boss!

Impressive. Nice work guys. I like the added torque and power in the RPM range where it's much more noticeable for street riding.

That is exactly what we were aiming for! Thank you! High dyno #'s "sell" parts, real or fake (sadly). But often times it is hard to really "feel" the power increase in a real world/track usable way. When one is able to produce torque/power under the the curve, it is "felt" and is more usable! I build and tune 500-1000+whp cars for a living. 20hp/20tq isn't a big deal when you're messing with something in that power range. You wont "feel" it. But 13% in the midrange of a bike that makes 170hp, is something that is not only 'felt" but also very usable!

The three older runs was when I had the standard, but powerkoated manifold refitted (after her accident) and the CW slip on (with PCV and Autotune).
The latest run was with her full (modified Termi's - also powerkoated inside and out) with PCV and Autotune. When I take her in again the power curve should look even better as more of the Autotune magic will be present, but you will see my midrange is at all places quite a bit superior to the standard (with CW slip on) midrange where the normal full Termi setup would actually be lower in a place or two.

I can support this claim with the dyno run below, which compares my bike with the RapidBike Race module and Termi Slip-Ons with a friends 1199 that also has the RapidBike Race module but with a full Termi System. You can see clearly that he has a bit more than 4 HP more up top but at the expense of the midrange, where my bike clearly has an advantage. The runs were done on the same dyno by the same operator, only a couple weeks apart.

Very interested in what you guys have cooking with this system. I'm very interested in how it will work with my RapidBike Race module which is automatically adjusting the AFR and Ignition Map in real time as I ride. I have a great relationship with a former instructor at Wyotech that runs his own Dynojet 250i. Perhaps I can be the candidate for your field beta test? ;)

These two pictures better depict the exhaust exit location in relation to the body work. The first picture posted the other day was shot at a very low angle (about a foot from the ground) and was a little misleading in regards to it looking "unfinished".

I wanna hear it, any idea when you will have some sound files, especially fly-by

Here is a sound clip. We are in a true dyno cell, so the combination of the blower fans, exhaust fans and dyno roller, it is kind of difficult to get a "real" listen the exhaust system. But at the moment, this is all we have.

Video comes up as "private" and I can't see it :(

Man that sounds awesome!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I want one!

Thank you! We agree! That clip is not a great example of the actual quality in the sound. If I had to describe it, it would go something like this: Being the large displacement vtwin that it is, the overall sound is very deep by nature. But it has a "raspier" tone to its depth when you crack on it! Think more GP sound. For something easier to relate to, think, full termis but more "rawish" with a "rasp" (for lack of a better term) when you crack the go flap!

Liked the sound of it. :)

Are you guys considering on changing the fairing as well?

Something similar to the AR exhaust setup?

Ps. Thanks for the polite and correct answer. Best of luck on the project. Will follow it closely.

Would that awesome sound pass the sound limit at most tracks?
Yes! We are avid racers and that is a priority for us. With the slip in, inline "muffler" we have in it, it is quite streetable! If this system were to become available to the masses, any and all sound concerns will be addressed or specified. Thank you for the compliment!

If you look over the thread, the lower fairing/under panel has been discussed a few times! We are just seeing what everyone's thoughts are on the current system. The likes and dislikes, as of now. The lower panel idea was on the table for us from the beginning and still may be an option if we decide to go ahead with a production run!

Thanks for the reply. I absolutely love it, but will reserve my final judgement until I see price :D

Ah....the joy of being married with 2 kids....

We are mainly dealing with the manufacturing legalistics at the moment. All the systems we make/have made are hand made. We've had a high demand for these units so we are trying to work out the best way of accommodating it.
