Taking a long trip...

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I have it and it is great for around town - little known fact, it expands 2 inches higher with a zipper like some carry luggage. I have used it to carry ally my phot equipment, a jacket, etc.

Cool.. I think its a bigger bag than I imagines it would be... This and the tank bag may well work then....

For a daily commute, I use the R25. I carry the following:

A pair of shoes.
My shirt in a shirt shuttle: Shirt Shuttle MK2 - buy at Firebox.com
Trousers
iPad or Laptop.

The main compartment is pretty full once that lot is in. There's still a bit of room in the front. The straps tie everything down nicely.

If I need a bit more space, I can attach the US-5 to it or even US-10.

Best soft luggage I've come across!

(I am no way affiliated, just like the stuff!)

+1 for the R25. I have a couple of Kriega packs plus the US-5 and -10 but the R25 is my preferred choice.

I have the DP tank and tail bags as well as the Ventura rack. The oem stuff looks good and will hold enough for a weekend away but not much more. Fit and finish looks good and lines etc fit we'll with the bike as you would expect from oem.

I did this over the DP tank bag, as it requires a semi-permanent mount that stays on the tank after you remove it. I use the tank bag on top of my passenger seat, and leave the straps attached, so I can quickly mount/unmount it. But a long trip, the tank bag would be a perfect addition. Where goin'?

Among other things.. Dragon.. Skyway and any other good rides in that general vicinity....(Tenessee/Carolinas...)

We tried to get Multistrada hard-luggage mounted, but the velcro just wouldn't hold it.

Having lived on the Panigale for 6 months, my recommendation is:

The Kriega bags come with lots of different straps giving you a lot of different options. Here's how I mounted mine...

Rear:
Use one single rear strap to secure the rear of the bag (using the the lic. plate holder arm thing as the mount). See pics below.

Front:
Remove your rear seat (or solo cowl) and you'll see two allen bolts securing the seat lock. These bolts are what I used to hard-mount two straps in the trunk. Simply remove the one on the left and bolt the end of a Kriega strap down. Then repeat for the right (I used slightly longer bolts).

(Here's what the end of the Kriega strap looks like)

Benefits:
1) Lots of storage space (full size laptop, charger, plus a lot of clothes).
2) The hard-mount straps can be stored under the seat (out of sight) when you're not using the bag.
3) Takes 30 sec. to mount or remove bag
4) Filling up w/petrol doesn't require removal (aka tank bag)
5) Provides a nice little hump to rest a backpack on to relieve stress from your shoulders.

Here's a pic (near the Tail of the Dragon on a nice sunny day) where you can see how it mounts at the rear:

And this shows you how clean the front mount is:

And if the 20 is 'too big' you can always opt for the US-10 bag.

It's far more svelte than the 20. Just depends on how much gear you want riding in a backpack vs. on the tail.

I use a Tumi also, got it on eBay at a decent price

it has rigid sides to protect my laptop or camera, but enough space to carry a pair of sneakers and other work stuff too.

the padding on the back is like the inside of a Dainese jacket, light weight and super comfortable.

Ive had it for a few years and got rid of all my others after a few months.

I use Tumi/Ducati backpack for commuting, holds a good size laptop, an iPad, and various other items.

A little bit diffeent approach but I have used shipping pretty consistently to solve this issue.

Call the place where you are staying the night. Prepare a box of necessities and clothing. Ship it to the location/s and have them hold it for you. When you change clothes and finish with your need for the box just put your dirty laundry in the box and send it to your house. No need to carry a lot with you, just have it there waitiing on you.

Some friends and I have used this method on a couple of instances in CO, and NC. We have even done it for track days in a pinch. I wouldn't suggest that though.

Damn, now I wish I hadn't installed that tail tidy - the OEM is a great mounting point for large bags :D

I ran the US10, strapping the rear harness under the tail-cover, with no issues, from CA to Minneapolis. Once I upgraded to the 20 I started strapping it more securely due to the weight.

Hopefully someone with some real world experience will chime in on this luggage thread. No offense Antihero, but I don't need to know what you use to haul your Tom's shoes home from Starbucks with a triple grande white chocolate mocha in tow. ;)

I'm torn between the 15 and the 20. I don't carry shoes or a laptop in there, but usually a pair of gloves, another shield, maybe a thicker pair of socks, etc. when dealing with spring and fall weather where the temp changes drastically from the AM commute to the PM ride home.

I think the tail bag is perfect for you. Give me a list of items, I'll put them in tonight and send post a pic? How's that?

I don't like the idea of attaching it to the bike though. I have ridden with a backpack for years and don't mind it so was looking at one of the backpack models. I won't be doing ironbutts like AntiHero so the backpack works pretty well for me.

Thats awesome... Just tell me how many pairs of jeans undies sox it'll hold...

I find that I can fit more undies in there if I stick to banana hammocks. It somehow seems fitting with the whole Ducati thing too....more streamlined and aero. :) Just make sure you get the kind with the mesh breather panels on the side so you have a prayer at maintaining your fertility while sitting on the 90,000 BTU space heater we call a bike..

Lol... I'm 53... fertility is not important anymore... Ive done my bit for the species :)

You guys now have me seriously considering a tail bag. I always thought they just looked funny but I hate wearing a backpack. I go on 2 or 3 day rides often and need some supplies but not to much. I have learned to be very compact. For the week long rides I am planning on this summer, I will be riding with some Harley friends and they have PLENTY of storage space to help out :D

Does anyone have pictures of the Ducati Tail bag mounted and how hard was it to mount? I don't have the passenger seat on.
