The Big Picture on Sprocket Changes

Just remember when making your wheelbase longer you may need to have a look at your sag and make some adjustments .

Would be nice if a real company releases their swing arm rod replacement. I refuse to buy SATO. lol

I also will probably like the slightly longer wheelbase, pretty excited. Although the RC8R is at 56.1 and the stock 1199 is at 56.6. I doubt it will be that much longer than stock gearing.

Hey guys, found out from the dealer the deal with the new "sprocket map". It does nothing for fueling, it is in reference to new TCS/ABS parameters for the increased sprocket size.

I wonder how will the ABS parameters be altered when changing the rear sprocket. There is a dedicated ABS wheel speed sensor which has nothing to do with the sprocket.

Right, but the amount of slippage etc will change as the diameter changes on the drive train.

And just like above, I changed tire brands. They swore up and down it'd .... it up, no issues here.

Wilkson, you sure a bigger sprocket wont make the WB shorter? IF so, that's ....... perfect!

Ughhhhhh !!!!!

You guys are killing me! LMFAO - :D

Nothing has been compromised by MY switch to a larger rear sprocket. Not ABS, not TC, not fuel mileage and the position of the rear axle (sliding forward or backward-which is minuscule in big picture) will NOT change the wheelbase. Your bottom line will be an increased low end responsiveness and another minuscule change to the damn rpm range, which actually works out in your favor. It's not so complicated, RELAX ! :D

I have not seen flashes of light, demons, blown by State Troopers at 190 mph, nor lost complete feeling in my arms due to vibration (watch another topic pop up on this) while riding mine POST SPROCKET CHANGE!

Don't become so wrapped up in this issue, its been going on for more years than Ducati has been in existence. The reason for mounting the "sprocket carrier" is so one can swap out sprockets ALOT more easily to adapt the bike for differed tracks, speeds, and low end -out of the corners blasts. The ECU does not need to be tweaked for this and no other equipment mods are required UNLESS YOU DESIRE THEM.

Aluminum rear sprockets are just fine for 99% of us on this bike. If you don't feel comfortable with them order the steel one from Ducati. Go down in front, up 1. 2. 3. teeth in rear, buy a longer chain in gold, red, pink or rust. Just have fun with whatever you decide and try it out to see if it's something that makes your riding experience more enjoyable. Yoos guys are getting too into the weeds over this. If you don't believe me than check with a highly reliable source who has EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE in issues such as this, and I DO NOT mean the service manager or tech at your dealership (unless one of the few prominent ones in the US - .... I know of one dealer who couldn't figure out how to remove the OEM bar ends for a member here just last week!) WTF over?????

RELAX MY FRIENDS!!

RELAX MY FRIENDS!!

I'm bored and inquisitive. I also doubt it will make a dif and IDGAF. What else am I going to do? I'm installing it Friday regardless. lol

Although I think it's in the best interest to go up in the rear vs the front unless you run out of room in the back lol. I'm losing over a pound of weight with the 520/AL kit whooot!

OMG, the chain/sprocket has NOTHING to do with the ABS/DTC - those all work off the tire's rotation. Only changing the tire's diameter will affect them.

Lol - no, that is to the whole forum, not you. You good!!!

Damn, I got distracted on here and forgot about my pan with oil i left on the burner. Opened lid, instant 3' flame, thankfully I'm a boss and didn't panic. I started looking for a fire extinguisher as if I was in my tank lol. Have my promask on now cleaning the kitchen since the smoke set every alarm off in my house....

Maybe you should have second thoughts riding the fastest superbike on the planet!

I'll be changing my rear sprocket for the 41 with 525 chain and 15 in the front.
I know the new chain will need to be cut to length. Anyone with this combination can tell me how many links in his chain ???

Thanks !!!

106 links
