Since things are a little slow right now, and all the new bikes coming out. Looking at where things are going with new materials and technologies what do you see for the future. I know that lamborghini and Boeing have a joint venture working on new carbon fibers and carbon composite materials. I read an article talking about how they are now testing using carbon fiber materials as engine internals.
Off topic I know but I think as the costs of carbon fibers come down we will see ot used more and more on bikes. Can you imagine a 200hp bike, that revs insanely quickly, and weighs around 300lbs. Granted the new electronics that come with it will be insane. I'm just bored and looking for a topic to get people talking.

The future IMO is electric motors.

I am currently working with some of those new materials. Carbon composites will become less expensive. 3D printing with CAD will enable a rapid progression in the integration of those materials to industry. I agree that electric tech will for sure advance. Personally, I am not a fan of where a lot of the electro/human interface tech is headed. I don't much get the point of a motorcycle that rides itself. I know the next bike I build will be void of a lot of the "excess" the my 1299 has. I have flown some fairly sophisticated aviation platforms and I always look forward to flying the stuff from the 40's. Something about "YOU" creating the experience not some black box. The electronics on todays bikes puts me to sleep and its a pain in the ... when it all goes bad. Something cool about tooling down the road on a 40's Indian. I get a chance to interface with the drone pilots who sit at a desk instead of a cockpit. They all agree that technology blew their chance at the experience of a lifetime. Im fortunate to be old. I got to do a lot of pretty cool .....

I have no doubt electric motorcycle will be the future. Not right a way, but I am sure in my lifetime.

Reading some of the articles out there on sales of motorcycles, I'm not sure there is actually that big of a future with superbikes. :(

I agree, I do think electric bikes are coming and will be the norm within the next 10 years or so. And there is the appeal of them, look how far they've come at the Isle of Man.
I don't think the superbike market is going right fade away any time soon. With all the racing organizations out there i have a hard time seeing them fall to the wayside. Look at Intermot show this year. The homologation superbikes were in full force. Along with Suzuki and Honda doing complete new bikes.

I feel we're "topped out" at the moment in regards to performance. In professional racing there will always be a market for advancement. Tracks, tires and bikes seem to push the envelope of each other. But I think consumers arhave a ceiling. How much of the technology can we actually use and enjoy? Will be be able to use a 250 Hp bike? I see more and more people reverting back to older bikes with less technology for far less money and enjoying the sport more. Obviously, this isn't the case for everyone, but it is becoming more prevalent. It seems "VALUE " is king nowadays. I think you will see those who will spend anything to have the "newest and greatest" and those who seek "best bang for the buck" with less of the population seeking the middle ground.

I said the same thing until I got a Boosted Skateboard. Then the Stealth bike. I like gas motors. Im particularly fond of turbines. That will never change but the electric stuff especially the custom R&D things that come out of workshops of talented individuals is pretty bad ....

I think Superbikes will keep right on developing, just like fighter jets. The engineers will add more power, and more rider aids to prove that their not trying to kill their customers.
It is all fueled by racing homologation rules, and in spite of modern society moving away from manliness and personal responsibility, it will keep going down this road for quite some time. Until some slimy nader like politico goes on a crusade to make a name for themselves, and personally attacks the killer motorcycles.

I'm looking forward to electric super bikes giving us our tracks back. There are so many awesome tracks that you can't take a Panigale to due to noise restrictions. The possibility for new tracks is interesting as well. Electric race bikes and cars means you could build awesome tracks even in built up areas without any worry about noise complaints.

the only electric bike I've ridden was the zero It was sorta fast but built like a Chinese or India bike (junk brakes and potmetal frames).
to say it was heavy would be the understatement of the century .

so I'd like to give an electric bike another chance , especially if the price and lbs. gets brought down by about 50%.

IMO the corner of the sport bike market that is doing well is the high end part of it . this is the reason the 600 market is flatlined . the only people left with enough money or who care about the segment are rich and want big power and exotic/hightech gadgetry .
If you can afford to buy a new sportbike you'll want the baddest out there and price is no longer the distinguishing factor.
600's have priced themselves out of the market too. the only difference in the 600 and the 1000cc bikes now is the size of the piston traveling down the cylinder. 600's used to cost half of the price of a liter bike. there are some younger generation who would like to buy a starter bike , but its gotten out of hand on the pricing

the remaining part of the population that used to buy sportbikes are staring at their iPhones masterbating to pron or pokemon .

1% maybe 3% of the population in the US ride motorcycle Maybe of that 8 million 1 million ride sprortbikes. it's not a growing segment IMO its declining rapidly .
then you take into account that the racing In the USA is not even close to what it used to be ... I'd say the writing is on the wall ....

Royal makes a great point on the noise. That would certainly go a long way in getting a facility approved in places where now it would be impossible

Just came back from the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress Meet at Melbourne last week and what was presented doesn't look good for car and motorcycle enthusiasts. With recent advances in technology such as vehicle to vehicle comms, advanced sensors, enhanced connectivity, vehicle intelligence & sensors, big data, managed motorways, tolling technologies, vehicle platooning, mobility as a service, and so on; what was clear was that driving and riding will be automated. The implementation of these technologies are still a long way off, I'll be dead then, however, I believe, we are the lucky generation to be able to savour the raw experience of driving and riding. Go ride at every opportunity and enjoy it to the fullest, folks.....

If the Mission RS was affordable and had a longer battery, I would own one. Love that bike. So sexy and sounds like a fighter jet.

My idea of a superbike of the future.

Make them lighter. 300#. I don't envision nor want electronics that help me turn more crisply. Reducing the weight, especially unsprung, will do that. Seems like a place for more CF.
200hp is more than enough with todays tires. Go for smooth power delivery, and only increase the power if the tires get better. Electronics are already limiting acceleration power, and 190 mph on a loooong strait is plenty for me.
Provide good mufflers so we don't get our tracks closed. More exotic material to keep the weight down.
Get rid of all the electronics, except something that prevents highsides if you roll in too much power. That is the one accident I don't need at my advanced age:D A superbike should demand of its rider the capacity to manage locking the brakes, wheelies, or sliding the rear.
Sort of ambivalent on clutchless up/down shifting. Seems useful in racing but for track days? If its there, make it easy to turn off/on so I can do it myself as needed.
Make it a track only bike, because riding something like this on the street is pointless.

Damn....didn't even realize Mission went out of business lol so much for that idea.
