I purchased a 22' V4 and had to shell out a little under $400 for 3.7 qts of Motul and the pleasure of watching my dealer plug a Ducati branded Texa into the bike for the 1000 mile break in checks. I work on bikes ranging from cruisers, sport tourers to track toys and I feel $400 rings a bit hot. However, the cost to establish a shop full of lifts, tools and Navigator TXTs is extreme, so I understand. Nevertheless, without that Texa handshake to DNA, the bike will apparently never shift the rev limiter indications to designed and you will be forever stuck with a change oil icon prompt at start up, a yellow caution light and the rev limiter will flash north of 7,500. I cruise open highways fairly quickly so it is a distraction and nuisance.
Not be outdone, my buddy bought a SFV4 and had the service done a week later. Because (per a DNA service bulletin) it takes 2 hours to measure the oil in the sump, the mechanic wanted to measure how much oil actually drains out and they justified charging him for this time on the stand. The end result, The $600 oil change and they didn't even use Shell, it was Motul. That is correct, no fairings to remove. Remove a drain plug, filter, add some Motul, adjust the chain, check for updates and codes and a hit up a few torques around the caliper area, $600. Here is the catch, all the Ducati dealers in Florida are now doing this.
When it was all said and done, both bikes were overfilled but we each now know exactly how many ml of used oil will drain from our V4 engines, minus the soaked filter assembly- btw, the amount was actually different between the bikes.
Anyone ever heard of charging a client an extra 2.0 hrs of shop time to let the oil drain out?
I am on the short list for a Texa Navigator TXB, however their contract with DNA states they cannot release current year software. I will pick this up when the 2022 Texa is available to us mortals and any Ducati types in the Tampa Bay area can message me, $20 for a service light reset and it includes a free beer out of the keg.
Is this even legal under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act? Can they require you to go to the dealer and have them perform a service to restore full function of the bike?
