Third time tachometer problem

today at lunch it came to me... i saw some cheese melting and wondered:
why does this happen at your dash?

so you're either redlining it all the time or your orange traction control light is on heavy duty, that the emitted heat melts the dash from the inside.

some humor for this bad situation for you!

My traction control light works hard for sure! Roads in Greece are ..... Especially in the city. I live in Patra!

I had DP windscreen in Texas summer and my dash didn't melt.... so I am not sure I agree with that suggestion...

I'm in the UK and have the DP screen. Just having my display changed for a burn mark in almost exactly the same place. It's a fault with the design of the DP screen that causes it to act like a magnifying glass. Never happened with the stock screen.

But how do you explain the second mark that happened during a night ride?

OK, this happened today. My dash melted. The top part has melted from the corner, the lower melted area is behind the dash screen on the actual LCD screen (cannot feel it with my fingers).

I have dark Zero Gravity Corsa screen. However, the bike has not seen sun since I installed the screen. The bike has been parked in my garage for the last three weeks while working abroad. Today was a rainy day, + 13 C temperature and no sunshine. My bike is 2013 1199S ABS (bought new March 2013), 12,800 km. The dash fogged first time in November when it was a very cold day. The dash fogged again today because I was riding in rain maybe 40 km. After getting home I noticed the melted dash.

My first real problem with the Panigale. I will try to get to the dealer if it does not rain too much today.

Oh wow....thats awful...and mysterious given the lack of sun etc..I have the ZG Corsa also and I am hoping its not related to that....

i will tell you the problem but nobody wants to believe it. they all make excuses for ducati. its the soul of the bike you pay 30k euro for this "soul" . You see I'm sorry but i said i would not talk about this anymore but stop you make me talk about it cause you can't just say ducati messed up in the design. park in the shade are you serious guys? anybody have any other type of bike that this happened to? no. when will you admit this bike sucks. this is the guys 3rd dash and you are talking different screws is it after market windscreen etc. its the upgraded wind screen from DUCATI what more do you want him to do? come on 3 dash boards already give it a rest . you are like the media with obama always carrying the water for ducati.
some of this I agree with, I'm on my third set of forks and know that in the end I will have to "forgive" fork out for ohlins because the Marzzochi's are .... at stay well!
In fact I think Ducati should fit Ohlins for free for all the .... they cause me.

It's not the sun, it's the diodes below the thin TFT screen burning through. I could see one clearly right below the hole. What happens when its out of warranty? How much do they cost?

Around $1200....

Agreed.

As I have previously said here on this forum.
The dash issue is going to be the elephant in the room, as far as customer satisfaction is ultimately concerned.
Years of trouble free use and pleasure will be blown away by 1 melted dash on the 1199.
I'm pretty forgiving, but that will piss me right off.

Find it difficult judging by the second image of a dash on this thread to see how the sun might concentrate its effects so locally to that one specific point, given the similarity to the first image from the OP's bike. Are we sure it's not an internal issue here? Would the dash not be prone to melting at other points as well. Seems strange.

I have a PhD level degree in physics. Although my main expertise is about semiconductors I know something about optics too. I am aware about the warnings from Zero Gravity and others about the focusing effect of sun using these screens.

With the amount of sun this winter and the three days I have been able to ride the bike since the screen installation I know for sure that the sun did not cause the damage. The melted area is so localized and so small that it is impossible it was because of the focusing effect of the screen. Even with a magnifying glass I would not have been able to do that kind of damage with the available sunshine here this time of year.

I would like to add that I am not bashing Ducati. In my opinion the original poster claims about three changed dash after only 49 total km is total ......... 49 km kilometers from new and four burned dash simply cannot be true. BS.
