Thumb Brake!!

Would be ideal to get the bracket/mounting system from Corse, but they won't sell you anything unless you're a somebody. Worth checking out pics of their setup and emulating it.

Looks like same guy that decided to go with plastic water pump gear built that fuel tank

Only 1 of the 3 front mounting holes lined up ha

Can’t see any thumb brake in yer pic

So the reservoir that came with it had the spout angled in a direction that I did not want to use so I bought a Brembo one with the straight down outlet. While its close, the Mick Carbon bracket easily accommodates both the clutch and thumb brake reservoirs.

The fluid tube is almost a straight shot into the MC.

My plan is to work the lever issue tomorrow, so fingers crossed I can sort that out.

So Mick you up for fabing a carbon fiber thumb paddle? I'm working on the prototype in aluminum but a CF one would probably be super trick! My though would be to send it to you to replicate.

I went with a Ti banjo bolt for the brake line to MC. The Ti bolt was a little shorter compared to the OEM line that I'm going to try to repurpose. Not a big deal I just needed to face the two sides so the center of the bolt lines up with the center of the brake line fitting. I also milled down the outer circumference of the brake line fitting in an attempt to give me a bit more clearance between the steering damper and the thumb brake MC.

I then started working on the prototype thumb paddle to get the ball park shape, clearance, and proper angle.

My plan is to ultimately have it replicated in carbon fiber but his is the initial prototype.
I still may end up going with a custom single brake line but that will probably be when I can get my hands on another abs pump that I can cut apart to delete the pump all together. (dont want to cut apart the one on the bike in case I .... it up and wreck it)

So today I shortened the thumb lever and attached the lever extension that came with the unit.

Its getting closer but its still too low to avoid contacting the edge of the body panel. The culprit is the clutch banjo bolt and fitting. I have a lower profile banjo bolt on the way and that should help a bit. I'm trying to use as much of the OEM stuff but I may end up having to co with a custom clutch line. We will see.

So I got my hands on a few low profile Ti banjos.

It did give be a bit more room to work with....but not quite enough. So I opted to explore a different thumb pad/ lever extension.

I will say this seems to be the wat to go on the Panigale with this thumb brake MC.

Finally I'm able to go to full lock without hitting the body panel.

Clearance!!!!.JPG
Clearance 2!!!!!!.JPG

While its close, it does not actually touch it. There is an adjustment knob on the lever as well that allows me to fine tune it. So as of right now, It clears the body panel and the switch assembly and its in a pretty good spot to hit it with my thumb. So I'm chalking this up as a win!.

I was debating on keeping the rear brake light switch or deleting it. Since as of right now I am planning on keeping the ABS unit connected to the rear brake, (It just seems easier right now. I do plan on deleting the whole ABS thing once I can get my hands on the correct ABS unit without costing too much.) my thought is to just use a banjo brake light switch at the ABS unit and plug it back into the OEM plug.

I found the correct terminals and can just crimp the new terminals on the pressure banjo light switch, then plug them back into the OEM connector, reconnect it to the wiring harness and hopefully if I have not ...... anything up, it should work.

The next step though is seeing if the longer OEM front brake line will just bolt right up for me from the ABS unit to the thumb brake MC. It looks like it just might work..... Well maybe......... I hope so anyway........... If not then off to plan........ ...., what plan am I on now? .... I don't know.

That is a good question. I guess maybe I'm trying to see how close to street legal I can stay. But since 98% of my braking is front brake only it really does not matter. I thought it might be kind of trick to have it work with a thumb brake. So I am totally indecisive on it.

I did work on the Gen 4 lever today though with a different angle bend.

The different angle gives it a bit more flat face for the thumb.
Once I get the right shape and angle, it will be off Mick to have it replicated in carbon fiber.

Looking good man so yep once your set will duplicate it in carbon.

Unless you have inspections where you live I would not run rear brake light at all. Cop pulls out behind you thumb some speed outta it. They look for brake lights. Trust

A license plate makes it street legal in my book : )

Got the brake line hooked up. and yes the repurposed OEM front line will work. It might be a little too long but that gives a bit of room to play with I guess.

I am going to start with the brake lite switch operational. Ultimately I plan of doing the ABS delete so it will be gone then, but for the time being we will see how it works.

And the rear foot controls are gone as well.

This is all of the foot rear brake hardware that is/ was removed.

Next step is bleeding it. Hopefully I can take a crack at that this weekend. Since its too cold to ride here in central California (a bone chilling 45 degrees Fahrenheit !!!!!!) Yes I know that might be summer temps for some of you but I am spoiled living where I do weather wise. Now politically that is an entirely different story but I wont get into that. But anyway since its too cold to ride now seems like a good time to tackle larger projects. I can see the OEM Akra Ti cans headed to Phil for some coring in the near future! I'm thinking a little weight loss and a bit better flowing exhaust might result in a bit more awesome power.

I would need one that can handle two MC to a single caliper. I believe Brembo might make one but not sure.

Yeah the Brembo PS13 is setup with two ports for running the thumb brake so must have for this setup. I have my secondary port plugged off.
