Thumb Brake!!

Well ...., thanks for that. I guess now I will have to add that to the list of things I need!!!!! Do you know if the Suter is the same set up?

What’s the difference between having a master w 2 bosses and putting a double banjo? Seems like there would need to be a check valve or valves either way. Isn’t there a port open to the reservoir when the plunger is retracted?

Its my understanding that there is some sort of a valve that prevents the fluid from being pushed back up into the reservoir when either MC is activated allowing both the thumb brake and foot brake to operate on the same circuit. A double banjo would allow the fluid to take the path of least resistance to the opposite reservoir.

Yeah the Brembo PS13 has some special valve plumbing inside the resorvoir cup and ports. Its specifically designed for the thumb brake setup which is why its used in SBK and GP nothing else works correctly.

The Sutur appears to not have additional ports or setup to run thumb break. Probably could make work but won't be same as using the Brembo.

I still don’t see how it works. Ya can’t have a straight out check valve. Release pedal - brake would not release

Is it a parking brake?

Lol

I know they work cuz I’ve seen em work, but I do not understand how

No that's not it click on my picture from the previous post that's mounted on my bike. They are about $900 and a 2-3 month wait so if you get one you will see there is some engineering trickery inside. The don't come with a plunger rod or any fittings. The few of us that are running them had to machine our own parts to make work.

Is this it?

There are other options very nicely made.

It looks like the radial option may help out with some of the clearance issues I was dealing with.

Got it bled today. It took a little bit and had to get creative but I got it done. I did slice my finger a bit though but nothing that a band aid wont take care of.

The lever has a pretty solid feel. I have not ridden it yet though. That should be tomorrow.
Overall it was not too difficult to install. I would not say its a "bolt right up" thing and having access to a mill definitely made life a bit easier. Repurposing the unused former front brake line worked out fairly well if one plans to still keep the ABS pump active for the rear. I will probably re configure the brake lines down the road with the Brembo dual line rear Master Cylinder and delete the ABS altogether.

The brake light switch works as it should mounted to the ABS pump so that's sort of cool. The OEM brake light switch connector is easily available to crimp on to the brake light pressure switch so it gives a clean OEM look as well. No splicing wires together.

Thanks Mav!
Took it out for a spin today. There is definitely a difference between the foot pedal and the thumb lever with the foot pedal being able to generate significantly more braking power. But that is to be expected. The thumb brake does provide some braking force that is able to be felt as the bike is moving at approximately 70mph. There is zero risk of locking up the rear wheel.
