TPS error with rain?

Hi! I'm new to the forum and unfortunately with some issues, hope you guys can help.

I wonder if a TPS error could mean an APS error or vice versa, here is why I ask this:

A couple of months ago I washed this 1199, afterwards it started to shut down randomly and throwing engine light, engine will start however no throttle at all, after waiting around 10min the light will go off and the bike will ride normally. Checked with melcodiag and threw P0221 Horizontal cylinder throttle position error [TPS 2 - Difference between track 1 and track 2]. After doing the APS reset it was fixed.

Today, started to rain while riding, made a stop to put on my rain suit, turned the ignition on, and engine light came back, started the engine, no throttle, waited 10min, and fixed. Checked with melcodiag:
P0120 Throttle Position sensor/switch A Circuit Malfuction.

So do you guys think this could be a TPS or APS problem? if TPS, why would rain or moisture trigger the problem? or just coincidence?

Also wanted to add that this bike has an issue that the idle stalls and dies after a long way down with engine breaking if I come to a stop and press the clutch or put it in neutral, it starts normally and idles normally afterwards, maybe related don't know. Would like to take care of these sensors first to see.

Thanks!

I would be yanking out the airbox harness and making sure all the connectors and the socket connector where the main harness/airbox harness connect. You either got a broken wire, bad connection and or some shorts somewhere.

Now that you mention this, aprox a month ago replaced the air filter, and got the error again, turned out the horizontal TPS connector cable was being pressed by the plastic piece that holds the injector, after putting that right the problem was fixed, however I'm still confused why it came back until today just after it got wet. Any recommendation on how to test the tps connector cable?

air filter change was like 1-2 months after the first time this issue happened.

nesmsm, here is the airbox harness data. You should be able to troubleshoot this with a multi meter.

Yes always got spares of the mill spec harness.

Mick sounds like he needs an airbox harness upgrade. You make a spare?

BOOM, there ya go, troubleshoot and if need be, replace. Try and get that kinda service from the from the dealer.

Unfortunately the dealer doesn't have any of these resources. When there is a failure the bike sits with the rest of the piles of bikes stacked outside the door waiting weeks to months for new parts.

thanks awesome info! gonne take a look at the cables first, how much for that harness

Yeah if you were inside the airbox messing with the air filter easy to bump into the wiring especially for the horizontal throttle body being closest to air filter so if you are getting intermittent errors I be leading towards your airbox harness has a short somewhere or broken wire on one the connectors.

The mill spec airbox harness runs about $225 so if you end up finding issues with your harness I can set you up with a mill spec or can send you a oem stock airbox harness that is new no issues for like $40

What is the difference with the mill spec hardness?, not sure what mill means :p

Hmmm. Just when I thought there was hope for Don, he goes off the deep end. The blue column is the pin reference to the physical individual component plugs in the air box. You have 6 2 wire plugs and 2 4 wire plugs so you’re going to have 8#1s (ECU pin 35 has 4 wires shared) 8#2s 2#3s and 2#4s. Got it champ. I thought we agreed, no more smoke late at night.

SMOKED

Yeah we all thought Don was doing much better but looks like the rehab got the best of him so back on the meth pipe once again bunch of content nonsense.

How do I get this round plug out?

I found a pinout for the ecu connectors, did the test for the 4 Horizontal TPU wires, and ground cable is getting random resistance readings, at times gets stable around 6, sometimes goes to 16 or so, and above 60 with no continuity, but I would like to try from the round connector to make sure the issue is on the airbox hardness, the other 3 cables are getting good constant continuity with 0 resistance

Correctly, the one on the left, incorrectly, the one on the right

Hardcore! I only have the one on the right.

Do you believe a resistance reading above 6 will actually mean a problem for the ground cable on the TPS connector?
