Considering a dedicated track bike with slicks and possibly modest performance mods, although stock would be fine. Potential for easy silencer mods to pass some track sound limits rather than trying to change my 1199S to meet them would be preferable. Enjoy the 1199S on the track but enhancing it at this point for track work would make it a pain when I want to just ride up canyons.

The question is, which 900 series to 1100 series would folks suggest?

Considering a 1098R.

Would an 1199 base/s/r with some up grades be a reasonable choice too?

Never going to be racing anyone but myself.

Any thoughts would be appreciated from those with more experience than I have.

I rode a buddys 1098r and it was awesome on the track. But if I had to choose one now I would grab an 848 or 899.

1098r is a beast but more expensive than a used 1199.

1198 is a good bike

848 is a starting to feel a little old but you can get a well set up one for a good price

899 is fantastic out of the box just the brakes feel a little weak

I would look at a 675r

More fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slowly...

I'd suggest spending your track bike money on a street bike and making your 1199 your track bike. Especially if your budget is 1098R money.

There are tons of bikes out there that are just as capable as a Panigale on the street minus many of the Panigale quirks that show it's clearly not designed to be a street bike. There are not tons of bikes out there that make a better track bike than the Panigale.

899 if you want to learn to ride faster, another 1199 if you are happy with your pace and just want a dedicated track bike for convenience.

I second the idea of the Triumph Daytona 675R. Pick up a 2011/2012 version. It already has Brembo Monoblocs, TTX36 shock and NIX30 forks. It is light, steers like a scalpel, enough torque and power to really get going and is in the running for best handling bike ever made. Oh and it makes glorious and rude noises as an additional benefit.

Seriously, it's brilliant, I have one and I love it.

for a dedicated track bike, I would absolutely run a Ducati twin, and the Supersports seem like the best starting point. That 1000DS stuffed into the 848 chassis is brilliant; the Supersports that I've ridden didn't feel so hot in terms of handling.

But IIRC an air cooled 2-valve 1000cc twin gets to run against smaller water-cooled bikes, one level below 600cc bikes like the R6?

there's a SS800 for sale locally at a GREAT price, considering that it's fully track prepped, but the SS800 doesn't really have much grunt.

999 does it all but it will take some getting used to due to diff engine character.... it will feel slow while it isn't... steady and dignified pull.... nothing crazy... :)

I got an insurance buy back . 5500 for a 2012 base 1199 with 4k on the odometer . Had minor cosmetic damage

Depends on the tracks you run. Tracks with shorter straights, 899. Tracks with longer straights, 1199. Since the price of a used 1199 is cheaper than the 899 out there, it would be hard to pass up all these 1199s for around 12k.

Many excellent choices if you weren't already coming off a 1199S.

Seeing as you are looking at spending a sizable chunk of change on a dedicated track bike, why not get another 1199 that's got some nice suspension work done or buy an RSV4R.

Lots of very nicely setup, dedicated track bikes out there.
