Hypermotard SP? I really this bike. The Panigale is just to uncomfortable for a ride more than 10 miles on my hands... I would say its cause of being a 16 year auto tech, but my R1 was the same way. Anyone else thought about it??

I love the hypermotard SP. It's definitely on the short list of second bikes. As far as the 1199 is concerned,.....well on the street is like seeing wild animals in a zoo. Nice to look at, but they hate you for it. Much better in their natural habit...the track!

Not to sound anti-sports bike, but if your not tracking the bike, (especially the Pani), I see little purpose in owning one. While breaking in my R I rode it on the highway hit 145 (indicated) in 3rd gear. It's not meant for the streets. The 899 is about the power limit of "useable" power for the street.

Unless you live next to the autobahn, or autostrada the 1199 is a caged beast. I explained it to my wife that it's probably the male equivalent of wearing high heels...lol.

Enjoy the hyper..... It's fun all day!

Grab your ankles! Be prepared to get screwed with no lube on trade in!
I've not ridden any Hyper, but will agree I've seen some murdered out SP's out there. If that's what you're lookin for enjoy it! Seems like a chill ride.

This is exactly how I feel about my 1199. Once I started tracking it, I never took it back to the streets. The Hypermotard SP is on my list as well.

It is why my Ninja 1000 is my all time favorite bike. It's 95% pure sport bike but with comfortable ergos.

Agreed on the Ninja.... but seriously if the OP cannot ride the 1199 for more than 10 miles without huge discomfort I am wondering if any motorcycle should be in his garage???

I live in twisty heaven, you can still stretch her legs not loosing that smile.

I think the multistrada would be a better choice for the OP

well, you've clearly never experienced the thrill of commuting to a starbucks on the 1199. Try it... you'll soon discover track days are overrated!

Next mod: custom carbon fiber coffee cup holder.

Just one week out of lasts chemo treatment and I did 160 miles on my Tri yesterday. Last 30 was slab so it was tuff.

Best wishes to you and the new endeavor with both bikes in mind! At least you intend on staying in the Ducati family and from what I hear that bike is alot of fun to ride. Ive actually never ridden one, just sat on it in store.

As stated, Id at least give it a try selling the 99 and see what that fetches first. Otherwise you will make a sales reps dream come true getting ..... on trade and probably paying top dollar on the SP. Good luck brother!

I've got one 1199 for the track, one 1199 for the street, and a Hypermotard SP. I've already put more miles on the SP than any of the 11 other bike I've ever owned. And I've loved every mile on the SP as a daily commuter as well as for weekends out on the back roads with my buddies. Although I still love my street 1199, it has seen the least amount of time out of the garage.

I came to the Pani FROM the Hypermotard EVO SP. I don't recommend such a massive step backwards. Maybe raised clip-ons might be in order prior to outright getting rid of the bike?

I got bored riding the Hyper after about 75mi at a time. Solid it after less than a year and a half with 2k mi on it. I've done more miles than that on the Pani in just Aug.-Oct. 2013. Plus, the Hyper is NOT sexy to look at, esp. not compared to a Pani. I still think "OMG wow!" every time I walk out to the garage and see the Pani. I never once thought that with my Hyper.

It's just a thought at this point. I really like the Pani, don't think I am scared of it. Top speed runs down the freeway and riding a wheelie at 80mph ain't no thing. I've ridden street bikes my whole life, 13 years now. We don't have bike tracks here in Vegas. Maybe I am just getting old? 34 lol.
I rode the SP at pro italia a few months back. Very cool bike, very chill. I couldn't believe how smooth and quiet it was. Seemed more like me. On the freeway my hands fall a sleep to damn fast riding the Pani. Maybe I can change to a comfort style grip.

Trade up to a Pani R :) - I swear they vibrate much less than the S or base. I was shocked at how composed the bike was by comparison. OTOH, when I test-rode non-Rs, my hands never fell asleep.
