Got an old 1996 600 with a 800 frame from a newer one. Engine is a 800ssie. The forks are from 999 and rear from a 749, so also the swing. Has 999 wheels with 120 in the front and 180 in the rear. New to me, but a very nice old bike. Now, it has a cornering issue, it runs perfect in higher speeds, but at slower speeds when cornering hard, it is hard to steer in and then it wants to tip inwards after the initial resistance. What should I do first?
I have got new tires laying and they will be put on during winter. But I feel there is something more to it, ride height?

Yes, now when you mentioned it, the steering gives a good resistance. Can you adjust the bearings somehow on these bikes?

Yes but if I've been tight for a while, they may have worn the bearing cups, put it on a stand to feel how stiff they are, or if they are notchy. If the latter they need replacing, remove the top clamp to adjust them.
