I was wondering if anyone has a delivery date on the Speciale. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone.

My dealer told May for the first one and June for their second as they ordered two.

Current word from Italy is March-April. I've got a whole list of people waiting to know when they are coming.

In the U.S. it's not that simple, you can't get a straight answer because no one has the answer. All we have at this point are estimates from Italy, and the current estimate is May. That could end up being anywhere from late March through June in reality, we only have a more solid answer when we're about 6-8 weeks out from the bike arriving because they'll be physically coming off the production line at that time. The various markets around the world will be getting their allocations made so they know how many of the bikes rolling off the line will be headed to the U.S. at that time. It's a "fluid" process, not like ordering a new car and getting updates from the factory on exactly where your particular car is in the assembly line process. They make market-based decisions in real time on how many of the bike coming out of assembly are going to be sent to each market. And in fact it's actually a "negotiation" at times with the markets competing against each other for production allocations. The most important piece of the puzzle that we as dealers say, and many think it's a sales ploy, is that Ducati allocates the bikes with a priority given to those who have deposits down. It's true, and in fact if it's a "hot" new bike a lot of times the initial shipment will only go to fill pre-sold orders. That's why we always encourage people to put a refundable deposit down on a bike if they think they want one, it really does get the bike here faster. Probably more info than you asked for, I'm feeling chatty this morning I guess. :D

Thanks for the information...

I put a deposit down and was told mid Feb and it could be as early as two weeks. I was trying to figure out if they were full of crap or being up front with me. I work overseas and I'll be home in 10 days, but I come back mid March and stay until June so I was wondering if I might get to ride it before I redeployed. Sounds doubtful.

Hey Jarel,

I was also told by Ducati (U.S. Ducati Rep.) that allocations have also been cut. For instance, if a dealer ordered 30, they may only be allocated 7 or 8. They may get their allocation completed over a couple of years. Is this your understanding?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah it's always a little dicey on the initial release of a completely new bike, they can't always plan production 100% accurately due to all of the new parts the bike requires and the timing of when suppliers can deliver those parts. There is an "allocation" of bikes that are assigned to the the North America market, and then Ducati North America has to allocate those bike out to the dealers. We put in our dealer "order" for bikes, which is technically a "request" and not a firm order, and if DNA can deliver those bikes to us we're obligated to accept them since we requested them. On these new releases, we often request more bikes than they will ultimately be able to deliver. In the case of the V4 they did the order a little different from the past, which is actually better I think. What they did this time was give us an initial allocation of how many bikes they are reasonably certain they can deliver to us, and then they let us request additional bikes on top of that which we will get if they have enough production capacity to deliver them. So rather than just having an order for say 20 bikes, and not sure how many I will really get, I have an order for 10 which I'm going to get in Spring, and then another 10 which I "might" get in the Summer. That at least makes it a little easier for us to deal with customers putting deposits down. What happened with the 1199 back in 2012 we don't want to happen again, which is 20 bikes expected, deposits on all 20, no clue on when we will actually get them, and we didn't finally get them all until middle of the Summer. No one wants to put a deposit down on a bike in December with the expectation that they'll get their bike somewhere between February and August.

April - May in Sydney here. pretty much like those Le-Ferrari system, previous owner of those SL or limited edition bike will be offer the speciale once it launch, then whoever put the deposit down is pretty much 1st in 1st serve. 6 speciale on order but none of them got the allocation numbers yet, mate request 46 / 1500.

Maybe in Australia it would tough to buy but i'm pretty sure you can still buy them here from a dealer, they won't be hard to get.

We'll see, there are already dealers sold out on their allocation of Speciales and putting feelers out to see if any other dealers will have extras they are willing to give up.............. ;)

Beside the exhaust, triple clamp and paint. What are the other differences your extra $12,000 is buying you on this speciale?

My dealer (europe) says the Speciale (quote):
will be available maybe from end of March , I understand there are problems with parts components suppliers.

After reading some of these links. I not sure it's really worth the extra $12k. Its seems after you have the exhaust. You are just getting some bling for the other $7k. No real performance to add other than the ability to suck money out of your wallet. But hey I will never knock anyone that want to buck up to the Speciale. I will say congrats. Beautiful bike sir!!!

For me. I will buy the V4R. I have already made my intention known with my dealer as soon as the first deposit can be placed, I will be there with my check in hand.

As much I would like to do the same, I'm too impatient to wait another year and I'm not a hardcore racer so I can't justify the R new. I'll wait till the price of the R goes down at least 10k.

You just wait until they release some bad ... Speciale type version of the V4R and let's see how much you poo poo spending $12k extra then.

If they do make a bike like that, I would probably throw that deposit at them so hard they will think Nolan Ryan wants the bike.

It’s in Ducati’s DNA for decades to come out with “special editions” and they seem to have no problem with willing buyers. You can’t break it down into an extras list of costs, if you do, you are missing the whole point.

This is no different.

I have one secured but I can say down here there is more buyers wanting the Speciale then they are bikes allocated to Australia.

I have no doubt the R will be special in a way only an R model Ducati can be, but it is a race bike first. The Speciale is the Ducati version of its flagship model for the first ever V4 road bike. Gotta love that! History in the making.

What do you guys think my chances are of snagging a Speciale towards the end of the year or early next year? Maybe used? I really want one but wont be ready to buy until I've closed on my home. Just started looking.
