Hey guys I am new to this Ducati forum and I am having an issue with my brand new 2019 Ducati V4r. The issue that I am having with the motorcycle is an oil leaking issue that is traveling from underneath the motorcycle onto the rear tire. However the bike has been taken back to the dealership twice in less than 2 weeks with the same exact issue. I contacted Ducati North America and they are sending a representative to review the problem. The motorcycle was also violently gaining power then losing it as if the fuel was cutoff and the restored during high speed runs. 650ib is having this very same issue and two V4r owners have their V4r's at Ducati Detroit awaiting an assessment. Can you guys offer any suggestions as to what is going on with the motorcycle.

Do what I did a d get an rsv4 1100 instead....lol

Christ, why are oil leaks still a thing on a $40k machine? That's not character, That's annoying. You would think with the technology involved in pumping out 200 plus hp you could find the tech to seal an engine.

I love ducs dont get me wrong but so far I'm 3 for 3 on oil leaking ducatis.

Are you sure your oil level is correct? Between the marks in the sight glass 2.5 hours after turned off. There also is a faulty clutch shaft seal but it wasn't a profound leak on mine, just slight oil noted on case around clutch.

Good luck with DNA, they are absolutely worthless.
I had to call Italy to get a well known issue on my 1199R fixed.

There is a bulletin for a faulty seal between the dry clutch and motor. Mine was replaced under warranty, so far no more leaks.

My V4r recently received its first service so over filling the oil was not an issue. The motorcycle is extremely quick and very fast.. I do not regret my purchase at all. I am simply looking for information that may help me and other V4r owners in the future. I really do not care about other motorcycle brands only the Ducati v4 and v4r's.

Yes, mine was overfilled by a quart after its initial service, its a common issue. If it's overfilled, when it gets hot it will overflow into the airbox which will drain out of the vents in the very bottom of fairing.

It's "common" for Ducati dealers to overfill their bikes?? What are we saying here? What?? I doubt it is common at all.

Says a guy that doesn't even have the bike but please elaborate on your expert V4R knowledge so we can all learn. This happened to me and two other guys all at different dealers, point being this is just something for someone blowing oil to check out. I like to personally know and do my own maintenance vs blind trust.

I agree IMO DNA has the worst customers service - I had to call italy also .

Forgot to mention this. Just because they are sending out a DNA tech doesn't mean a thing.

He totally misdiagnosed the problem while telling me not to use the bike as intended.

Who are the dealerships? Are you one of those guys that just make these types of statements that could lead to catastrophic results, and not mention who the dealership is? So three different dealerships over filled three different v4R's. ?
Yeah ok. Seams plausible. Lofl.

mine was leaking, it was appearing from the bottom of the clutch housing. Only knew because I had removed my clutch cover.
Replaced and all good now :)

I guess the techs can't read the manual. There is a oil filling process you fill to a set capacity then let the bike settle for a set time then check the level again.

I wouldn't just assume the bike was improperly filled or go directly for the clutch area.. mine started leaking oil at about 300 miles. Pulled the lower fairing and found leaking Oring where oil line goes into the cooler. I'm thinking it was likely damaged when the Akra exhaust was installed. In any case 30 minutes and a new Oring has solved the problem.. just my 2 cents.

the funny thing is I remember techs having problems overfilling the Testastretta Evolution (1098) engine with too much oil . these forums were a lifesaver for some people who couldn't figure out what was causing all the oil in their airbox on a brand new bike. LOL

and that bike was simply a drain and fill - the V4 is not so simple

Update: the oil seal was replaced under warranty by Ducati and they gave me a brand new rear tire because the other tire was soaked in oil the motorcycle is running awesome now..

What fixed the running issue?

Hopefully doesn't happen to V4Rs but where would one look to keep an eye on if you were leaving the clutch cover and fairings on.
