How much difference could there be between two tyres??? Weight wise I mean...

Yea a lot of people don't realize the weight of the tire. In pro racing (WBSK) they all use the same tire except for compound (soft, softer, and softest) People don't realize you could save almost 1-2 lbs on the rear tire alone for example here are two good well know tires. Damn near 2 lbs of rotating mass difference on the rear wheel.

Q2 rear 13 Lbs 0.2 oz
Mich Power 2CT rear tire weighs 14 lbs 11.2 oz

It would be pointless to get some light weight magnesium wheels to save 2 lbs and then add 2 lbs more on a heaver tire. Wouldn't that be defeating the purpose?

Well if 1 tire offers better grip and feel but is heavier that tire would still be more desirable imo.

Yea there are a lot of scenario we can think of to justify which one we would buy but in reality most good well know modern tires can grip more than the most agressive amateur rider can push them. No matter what tires you get, if you hit an oil patch or something that rubber doesnt like regardless of what compound or tread pattern the tire uses it will slip. Street and dual street/track tires heat up very quickly (unlike track tires) and provides excellent grip. The true difference is your riding style for choosing a tire whether you like stiff or soft side walls, cup or rounded tires will help you improve your grip and confidence and improve your time on the track. Unless you ride like Marc Márquez you would need that WSBK spec tire that has has the special compound that is not available to the public and you're out of luck :D

But it's hard to beat the laws of physics in regards to rotating mass regardless of how well you ride. Less rotating mass will make you a better rider from beginners to advance riders period.

Mich Pures were (supposedly) the lightest street tires available at one point. I couldn't tell you whether it was true or not, my streched turbo busa didn't behave any different:D.

Aren't you experimenting with the new Q3s? I'd imagine carbon fiber tires should shave weight over traditional tires.

If he's using street tires id imagine he's mostly street riding. Weight loss really doesn't mean too much there unless you are being crazy in which case save your money for the hospital bills.

For me, I would get the OZ Cativa R. it costs 3600$ but it is unique looking.

yup unique looking and extremely light compared to all the sea of BST's on the 1199's in our country :D

here's mine at the ducati bike night last week

I was referring to back when they first came out, CUPS are light indeed. :D

Great tires, I have discovered not so great on the street. Without any belting, they are very fragile etc. I had two flats within 200 miles each, the same month. ANd you know they're not cheap. I ordered a set of Pirelli's to get me by and have a set of Continental Road Attack 2's to try after that.
