They weigh 1.4lbs a piece compared to the stock 3.6lbs a piece.
Ah, I see. That in itself is reason enough; significant. That said, I'd need a set for each set of wheels and that would get expensive.
Besides, my OEM calipers with Brembo Z04 pads are remarkable and I am an amateur racer at best.
Way cool, nonetheless.

Everything is on finger tight. I still have lots of fiddling and adjustment to do on the bars and positioning of the thumb brake, as well as transferring the controls off of the old bars and ordering a reservoir and brake line to connect the two MCs. [emoji106]

Looking forward to hearing you’re thoughts on the rotors, I tried them on the 1299 and didn’t have great luck. I suspect the pads. I used the carbon pads from Ferodo as recommended by Jeff. They were the only Ferodo pads I could get for the monoblocks. I’m going to try non Ferodo pads at some point but for not they are back in the box

What didn't you like? I've had them on the 1299 for some time now and am very happy with them. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just good consistent feel. It's the drop in rotational inertia and unsprung weight that I noticed the most, not necessarily stopping distance. It changed the feel of the front end dramatically. I think I'm using XRAC's but I'm not positive. It's been a while since I installed them.

Yes for me the braking efficiency. Switching to the TK rotors and Z06 pads was like adding power breaks. Again I think the pads were just not the best for the application but you’re limited to pad selection running monoblocks. I’m putting them on my street fighter build with the GP monoblocks and I’ll try some different pads. With regard to gyroscopic effect, yes it felt like I was turning a bicycle but I actually kind of like the steel a little better there as well. To me it just feels more planted and a little less squirly but that’s just my inexperience with the setup. For the street and optimal breaking. The TKs with the Z06 and monoblocks has been amazing. Not giving up on the CMCs. Just need to reboot

Well, I'm a bit out of breath after all this bike ....! Today I returned my 1299 to Pirelli's, after 4500 miles on Michelin RS+. Went for Rosso Corsa 2's, with a 200/60 rear. I'm sure my abilities won't really do justice to this size of tyre, but wanted to try it out. Initial impressions good, much smoother bump absorbtion than the Michelins, but not as knife-edged as I was expecting them to feel on 1st ride. Will take her out tomoz, scrub 'em in and report back. Clearance between tyre and hugger, and also exhaust is only about 10mm ( I run stock gearing + chain atm) so I'll have to watch that. Have a 14 tooth sprocket that arrived today if I need to shift the wheel back a little. Dave

Unfortunately they have been out of production for many years. Used sets pop up maybe once every couple of years but the price keeps going up. Yes you can use them with stock calipers but you have to use specific compound pads with them. Ferodo makes a XRAC and ZRAC pad that works beautifully. They weigh 1.4lbs a piece compared to the stock 3.6lbs a piece.
So these beauties that you purchased are used?
How do these discs wear compared to standard discs?
For some reason I thought these might be back in production because I've seen a few sets lately, both online and in person. But perhaps it's just the bike .... gods taunting me with what I can't have..

These are unused brand new, but purchased from an individual. Not purchased from Braketech as they are not available.

Rotor wear is pretty much non existent. I have a used set that there is absolutely no wear on the surface.

Have the bars installed and the positioning of the thumb brake done... Well, sort of. It is very much and iterative process re: bar angle, forward/aft bar placement as well as vertical placement of the clamp on the fork tube, amount of steering lock dialed in on the new triple tree, and let's not forget the clearance of everything (including the repositioning of the rear brake fluid reservoir at the bar) with aftermarket track fairing.
Support from IMA Special Parts and US dealers is excellent.
Now I have to order a custom brake line and reservoir. (And yes, I will post a build thread when it’s done and I have more time.) :)

I like your new Rotors and unobtainium is right. I remember getting excited about Braketech releasing a news item about their CMC rotors. I waited a couple of years and about every 4 months would send them an email. I got to be on a first name basis with a guy called Jeff. In the end he said it was never going to happen as the market is just not big enough. Apparently cost to tool up and produce was just too much. I just checked their webpage and the page looks updated from what I remember but the news article is still there saying the same thing. It is a pity as I sure lots of people would like to have a choice other than SICOM. Congrats on finding them.

So, this took more than a day... but I repositioned a tethered kill switch to my new IMA Special Parts upper triple clamp.
For those riding an 1199, you may have realized that one cannot install a tip-over kill switch that kicks in automatically when the bike is on its side (if you’ve retained the stock ECU).
Why would you want such a thing? Well, if the bike is on its side and running even for a couple of seconds, it can starve the top end of the engine of oil, creating significant damage (don’t ask how I know) [emoji87]
Anyway, A couple of years ago I installed a simple tethered kill switch from a water craft (e.g. JetSki), which works wonderfully (again, trust me, I know).
When I replaced my triple tree after the crash last fall I needed a new bracket.
I mentioned this to my mechanic friend in passing (who was helping me install the brake line for my thumb brake) and voila! He 3D printed me a mock-up, test mounted it and then CNCd a new one out of billet aluminum. What a guy!
I'll have to get it powder coated this winter, after the track season is done.

Is it me or are these bars a little more forward where they clamp on? As Im looking at your clutch master cylinder it seems like its more forward than how its positioned . Im wondering if the motocorsa reservoirs would work with the IMA clip ons.

Indeed, I did move the bars back a bit since that preliminary positioning/photo was taken.
Regardless, I will have a look at the motocorsa reservoirs. Thanks.

I crashed (again), so I’m rebuilding the front end (again). [emoji51]
Replacing front axle, wheel bearings, headset bearings, left side foot controls, and making the body work good enough for the rest of the season.

Oh, and let’s not forget sending my tech-air vest off for repacking ($300), and my lap timer off to replace the LCD screen, and ordering a new helmet gloves and a set of leathers. [emoji2369]
