well, those are some pretty good suggestions, i like the GUN ADVICE from charielm 90, however in reality is much different then sitting at your computer thinking of ways to handle the situation.
STRIKE 1 - well just enough time to swerve out of the way thank god no one was coming in the opposite lane of travel,

Strike 2 - he got the 1199 ROAR with a finger +2

STRIKE 3 - this one was the last straw, this time it wasn't only me it that was in cross hairs, it was my brother who was a little staggered next to me, I closed my eyes only waiting to hear tires screech, but with less than a foot we both cleared.

This wasn't the end of it, this was the last straw, if my bro had a gun oh boy, he pulled over after being stormed by 2 bikers, goes to aplolgize which was good, turns out i knew the guy, that didn't matter. after yelling in his face and letting him know how bad it could of been, he was a loss for words, turn to my bro who would of punched the dude in the face if i had not said his name, game him some trueth advice drove out of there like flash gordon chasing ming!

after its all said and done im that much more alert than ever, but then again anything could happen tomorrow walking down the street.

I no longer have problems with road rage.

You may not have known I had issues with road rage.

However, since I picked up my new bike people no longer seem to annoy me any more.

Maybe I have mellowed. Eye rolling smile

Just wanted to let you know I'm over all of that now.

Or you could go that route. For me personally, while I don't want to get hit on the bike, only slightly lower on the list of things I don't want to do are get shot or go to jail. So I generally try to avoid circumstances that may increase the likelihood of one of those things happening. ;)

This honestly sounds like my every day commute. If I were paranoid I would swear that drivers are intentionally coming up with new and more spastic ways to murder me to death with their cages. The truth is that, as soon as you strap on your helmet, you and your bike magically become invisible to all other motorists as well as most bicycles and pedestrians. Just take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are completely invisible before every ride and things make more sense. ;)

I've had days like this and sometimes there is just nothing you can do about it. It's strange and I don't believe in fate, but some days question my belief. You can be pissed, act out, kick someone's ..., throw spark plugs through windshields, rip off side mirrors, etc... Doesn't change the fact while you're on a bike you're essentially a bug on the windshield no matter how tough you are. It sucks, but I ride like everyone is going to take me out. On the other hand, I have more days where I feel charmed.

I'm sorry to say this, but this does not sound right to me. First all you say one pulled 5 feet in front of you but you swerved out of the way. You avoided another at ten feet. At five or ten feet there is zero chance of avoiding a collision. It's doubtful a rider can avoid a collision at fifty feet.

In my 25 years of riding I have not had a single really close call. I've had people do things that had I not been driving defensively I may have had a collision, but the end result is I have never gotten within probably fifty feet of a real collision.

I know it happens. But if it happened three times in one ride I would be wondering if I'm putting myself into that position.

Some days when I go out for a ride, it just doesn't feel right.

You get to know those days.

If its a pleasure ride I usually curtail, if its a journey, I take the car

This! My own example: went for a ride, got 1mi down the street and saw a deer waiting patiently at a ....... crosswalk for the walk signal! Sometimes you see stuff you know is just wrong. Trust your gut, it will save your life.

After riding my bike for a massive two weeks (in total) all summer I've learned that I need to care about no one but myself while on the road. .... the rest of the people out there. The majority of car drivers could care less if they take you out. Speed, swerve, stop, do what you need to make it home alive. (No, this isn't an excuse to do 186 *cough one arm* cough*).
Within reason of course.

I'm young and stupid so I've been known to cut off a few cars back which is just immature, and frankly quite stupid. Remember- car vs bike. CAR will win the showdown no matter what. Stay safe in MA. Come down to NJ if ya wanna experience ALL the wackjobs.

simple you don't have to understand, just asking what would you do, and after 25 years maybe you extra lucky wherever the place you go.

And don't mean to lecture, everybody on here knows how to ride. But to calm my rage at ..... drivers, I try my best (doesn't always work) to focus on what I could have done different, not what they could have done different. There will always be idiots, and my skills can ALWAYS be improved.

i agree with you, i feel more now than ever i have to be sharper, more keen, whose not looking to take me out or anybody for that matter. The bottom line is once no big deal, twice unlucky Coincidence, three times too many in same evening. I think what gets me is if you hear a harley with pipes every one usually looks, so why not with 1199, is not loud? I know mine is and i'm positive the rest of you 1199 owners say deal, so for the last guy who wasn't paying attention got ... reemed out, maybe he won't take out one of you guys since he is now a little more aware or scared.

I don't doubt that there is some luck involved. But a lot of the luck is a result of our own actions.

HAHAHA No thanks on the wack jobs!!! the bottom line is no matter how long you have been riding, how much experience, all it takes is one wrong call on a person to end yours, and i believe if you can get yourself out of that situation its a plus, however the ...... should know ecactly their mistake.

enjoy the ride!!

It's all about RISK. You can greatly reduce your risk by not riding at night. Many people are driving borderline drunk and their minds are everywhere but inside that car. Also, most animals come out at night (four and two legged variety).
Risk can be further reduced by avoiding rush hour traffic (if there's such a thing in your area).

stay in distance is best you can do.
behave like you are invisible to them.
dont be agressive to them, the less you are the less the are.(strage but true for me in my country)
a lot of the drivers are unable to cope with traffic, the rest are idiots.
dont try to instruct those idiots, there are too many will not understand because there are idiots.

as i accepted this it is much easier for me riding on german streets.
we have enough areas to go really fast--- legally!
but sometimes it still could be strange. then i pause for some time and try to relax before coming back.

like i sad, it worked out for me.
