What's the dumbest thing anyone has said about your bike/gear?

These always make me smile when I'm on my PS.

Sweet bike. What year is it?
'06.
Man I was close, I was guessing '75.

And, did you do all the work yourself?
Yeah, I did all mods myself.
Great job. That's a lot of work to make an old bike look that good.

I don't ask stupid questions when I see people doing other hobbies I'm not involved in.

You have more tact than I do. Were I to happen upon a group of people engaged in a game of curling I would have tons of questions and I'm sure most of them would be stupid.

At work yesterday, walking from the door to my office... Wearing a leather jacket, boots, carrying a helmet with a glove in it and still wearing the other glove...

A coworker walks up to me and asks "Hey, did you ride your motorcycle to work today?"

My reply, "No, after watching you leave the parking lot yesterday, I thought I might need the helmet and jacket today."

Before I sell my 1198 and get the 1199, had full termi on it so the noise plus the dry clutch etc... Where very load and weird for most people, in a gas station a guy was letting me know that I should shut down the motor immediately cause my motor was blown and he is a Mecanic, so I told him not to worry cause my bike is Diesel and he said that was very load Diesel bike and that he have seen diesel bikes before and they where not that load. Jijiji I just couldn't believe what I was hearing and looking at.

I wear my Ducati jacket to work, I park right outside and my Ducati Arai sits on the shelf behind me in my office. I often walk through the door while removing my helmet too. People always stop by my office and ask me if I have a Ducati.

Techncially it doesn't, because the panigale actually has a displacement of 1198cc's, but I understand your point ;) when someone who hasn't seen my bike asks me about the engine size after I tell them it's a Ducati 1199, I feel slightly ........ saying, "Well, even though the bike is called the 1199, it's not actually 1199cc's, it's 1198cc's, but it's the next model, and the last one was called the 1198 soooo....", and instead I just say it's about 1200.

When people ask me how big the engine is on my bike, I tell them ".04 Cubic Feet". People usually stop asking questions then because they don't know if they should be impressed or not.

I know!! If you're walking carrying a helmet people ask, "do you ride a motorcycle?" No, I'm #@%%ing ........ and wear this for safety.

Alright dude... I have the perfect line for someone who asks you how much something costs... say this, it stops them in their tracks everytime.

"Uh, I don't know... some chick bought it for me"

They don't know how to respond to that one and I am sure it stops further stupid questions.

EDIT>>>> Ok, I just saw... someone beat me to it. I wouldn't recommend the "wife" part as it doesn't have quite the STING as if some random chick you are banging bought it for you.

Actually Happened to me. Was dating her for 3 months and BAM! walked into her garage and there it was. She said "Now you can stop talking about the damn thing and ride it". We just broke up after a year of dating. Best rebound girlfriend ever. The people at the dealership I work at all saw her walk in and buy it. Karma is real.

I had an older woman at work ask, do you have a Ducati or do you just wear the jacket?

Then again when I walk through the door at lunch holding a Subway bag, I usually get asked if I'm having Subway for lunch. I hate small talk, it's 99% stating the obvious.

Actually that is a fair question though a bit sarcastic by her and I would assume she knows you? Here in Thailand, there are plenty of wannabe's wearing Ducati gear :)

As soons as I hear someone unknown to me say that they are a mechanic, I immdeiately ask them a simple tech question and most stammer or can't recall. Funny about that

I was getting gas during the middle of a ride, and had a guy walk up to me to talk to me about my bike. He was clearly "that guy" we've all seen/met before; basketball shorts, sleeveless top, backward hat and oakleys. The first thing out of his mouth was that he loved how I had modded my R1, and asked me where I got it done so he could do the same to his. I told him "The Ducati dealership where I bought it." and finished filling up.

I ride a Monster 696.

Does she know me? No she doesn't.
A better question, without being rude and or sarcastic, would have been to ask, What sort of Ducati do you have?

That question, is more likely to yield the truthful response as opposed to being rude, where someone may then just ........ her back, and say yes.
I could have been a prick, and said, an 1199, its worth more then your Jeep!

Not so much about the bike, but at dinner with some friends and one lady proudly told those around her that I rode a Bugatti motorbike. This created a somewhat surprised discussion and I was torn between making her look stupid or just smiling.

Interestingly, I did the math and determined that when I'm on my 1199, the power:weight ratio is roughly equal to the Veyron's. So in a way ...

i had the counter chick at whole foods asking me if i rode a moto guzzi (had a pro-italia shirt with a monster on), i said "no a ducati", she: "my (italian) ex had a guzzi and he always said ducati riders were .... i forgot it (some italian word) bla bla bla... "

then the the guy behind her walks up and asks me if i was from california, 'cause of my shirt, as pro-italia is from cali.
i say no, but i order parts from them.

didn't know whole foods was such a biker aficionado grocery store :D LOL

Just last night.

"Is that an SP?"

"No, it's an R."

"Oh, well Jim's got the 1198 SP, but this little scoot ain't so bad itself."

(who the .... is Jim and who the .... are you??)

"This is an 1199, the newer model."

"OHHH, they make an SP in this model too!"

"No they don't."

"Ohh yeah they do!"

"How long has that been out?"

(long blank look at me for a while)

"Just three weeks, but it's still on the drawing board. Haha!"

He hobbles off to have a conversation with the mailbox.

"Why did you get that- the BMW is faster and costs less"

1: Really? You're faster on your HP4 than your Pani?
2: Oh, well fortunately I bought the bike I WANTED...
