Pretty sure China's progress speaks for itself when you move away from the propaganda bubble. You don't have to agree with how another culture lives or how they want to be governed but there is no doubting their 5000 year old civilization is on a roll. My work brings me in contact with a lot of the young Chinese diaspora- I am constantly amazed at how they all have degrees, and not bogus ones either. As for US education, how about something called student debt? It's not about advancing the FIRE sector but actually about building stuff so in essence I agree with you, young man go get a trade without an AI future like being a plumber or a builder etc. Lawyers are overpaid dogwalkers as a middle managers who are going to get reamed by AI. The grads who cant get jobs are in industries that are saturated.

Please define how much a 'living wage' is. Somehow I think you'll put up a number that is greater than my total income, but I live just fine.

Yup…I go into those business and fix them or build them up. The most direct path to wealth in this country is to learn a trade then start your own biz. You can play it conservative and build a 10 mil hvac and electrical contracting company and make 1.5 mil a year in after tax personal income, or be a hard charger and build a 100 mil contracting company and make 15 mil a year after taxes.

A living wage at a MINIMUM means that without assistance you can afford rent and all the other life expenses for your family unit.

I would add that you can also fund a baseline retirement so that you don’t become a burden on others later in life.

So it depends on the cost of living where you live.
