Who is excited about the Ducati V4?

looks pretty good but the front should change as well. looks to much like the panigale with those headlights

Agreed, my 749R race bike was bad ass!

Yes 749R was a great thing (I had an S). It would be great it Ducati did that sort of stuff all over again, A really lightweight mid sized with a really special engine and suspension.

No market for it I suppose :(

Oh, there's a MARKET, there's just no MARGIN! ;)

Another reason why I suspect that it will be more of an evolution of the Panigale as opposed to a completely new design (revolution) as has happened in the past with the new Ducati Superbike development and introduction is because the Supersport has a lot of Panigale in its design. Why do that if they're going to completely go away from the design? I think that they want to draw clients who want the Superbike but realize that the Supersport is the more road and street friendly version of that. I think Ducati will want to retain a family resemblance.

Ducati learned a hard lesson from the 999. For those who've ridden it, it's a brilliant bike, even today. It dominated in racing. It's great fun on the street.

And nobody bought it. The styling grows on some people, but it's no winner.

The 1098 won styling awards and ten years later is as timelessly beautiful as the 916. The Panigale's styling is very much an evolution of the 1098 and is equally, if not more stunning, so I expect the V-4 to continue that family resemblance. It's already a departure to go to four cylinders; why take risks on the styling? The market is what it is; it could be the best motorcycle ever built and make you sandwiches while you ride, but if it isn't sexy, people just won't bite.

Maybe it's the angle of the spy photo, but it looked to me like the engine was canted backwards. Ducati has learned a lot of lessons from the MotoGP program during Dall'Igna's current tenure. The V-4 is immensely powerful and I doubt reliability will be an issue. A V-4 layout that is canted slightly backwards, will also be a first.

And I'll bet you anything that the monocoque frameless design will continue, but this time it may mimic to some degree a perimeter frame. Now if it had a traditional Japanese style frame I wouldn't be remotely interested, but in the spy photos, the air intakes seem to come around from the outside to the space between the cylinders. I suspect those are load-bearing and if so, it's of great technological interest, just as Preziosi's box monocoque has been (failure in MotoGP notwithstanding).

And it's obvious to me why the Panigale will continue to be the machine raced in WSBK - every Ducati superbike going back to the 888 era has won a championship. The Panigale won't be retired until it too takes home that elusive trophy.

Who wants to bet that Ducati may offer Jonathan Rea Lorenzo's position at MotoGP? Lorenzo will surely want out after a ego-crushing season, and by hiring Rea...there'd be no one left in WSBK to stand between Davies/Melandri and the WSBK championship (Sykes is very quick and it would be a close battle but I'd put my money on Davies if the season plays out to a neck and neck shootout with Sykes). Rea gets a salary bump and a MotoGP ride, everyone wins.

Interesting post, but this bit got my attention!

Sorry to burst your bubble, this was a MotoGP test at which KTM, Aprilia, Ducati, Dovizioso, Lorenzo, Stoner and Bradley Smith were present. No V4 in site. Tests of the new V4 will almost certainly have or are being run at Nardo Ring due to the stricter access, as was the case for early development of the 1098 and 1199. Publicity teaser videos (featuring Troy Bayliss) were shot at Mugello for the 1199, all under a strictly controlled environment.

Oh well sounds nice anyway lol

Sure does. If the new V4 sounds this good, Ducati might as well be printing their own money now! We only have a few weeks to wait until they release an official soundtrack of the new bike anyway.....

Well, in my progression of bikes over the last few months, I started with a 16 RSV4 RF. I have to say, that bike sounded sweet. I would imagine Ducati's V4 will sound even better as they seem to throw caution to the wind with their exhausts. For me the key is how the torque is on the V4 more than anything else. Now I realize gearing plays a major role here, but at low speeds, the RSV4 was lacking in torque. I don't spend time on the track anymore, so while I can appreciate the ridiculous HP up in the revs, the reality is I will VERY rarely use it for the type of riding I do, so the V4 is going to have to outdo the Panigale from a rideability standpoint for me to be interested.

If the rumor of a 1200cc V4 road version is true, then i reckon it'll come pretty close in matching the torque of a 1299, while having smoother power delivery and making more power.

Here you go my friends, for the ones not on Facebook

Take it for what it is, but I wouldn't say it's unlikely to be the next gen

Same video as above, with GP bikes. Unfortunately.

With euro 4, how good is this thing really going to sound?

This is the same video Phl. This was a MotoGP test at Misano last week as posted by an Italian at the track that day. Along with Ducati, Aprilia and KTM were also there. It's unlikely that they would be testing the V4 here since security is not that tight and access to the circuit that day was open to almost anyone. Typically they run initial and high speed endurance tests at the Nardo Ring then controlled footage usually materializes from Mugello, where many of the teaser videos Ducati "leak out" will have emanated from. Official promo videos wil be shot using pre-production bikes shortly before the launch at EICMA in Milan and these could be filmed anywhere, though Portimao is a favourite and Monza as well. Speaking to a colleague in Italy who worked at the factory, it's a very well orchestrated timeline, and drip feeding information and teaser videos/images out is all part of the hype they want to build up on the run up to the official unveiling. It's only backfired on them once when someone leaked out some studio/brochure images of the 1098 ahead of EICMA in 2007 and again at a dealer conference in the US where the 1299 was seen in the background of a Facebook image that was posted by a US dustributor. After the dealers see the pre-production bikes all have to sign or agree to a non-disclosure agreement before November, which is the earliest the rest of us will get a glimpse, though in this age of mobile phones and the internet, not much stays under wraps too long, if there is a chance someone can sneak a quick picture in, so I would predict we'll see it before then.
