hey. i wanted to throw in sumthing to talk about

will ducati semi active suspension (skyhook) be that much betta then the current ducati electonic suspension (DES) adjustable on the panigale S & TRI.

skyhook is currently on the 2013 multistrata & BMW HP4 2013 has a different name

im worried that it be so good that ill have to trade in for one.

If you want bragging rights maybe, but unless you're a God I doubt you will push the bike to its limits. I prefer to race my KTM because it has no aids besides QS.

In addition, all these electronics kind of freak me out. I've had several glitches on my Ducati and they caused me to panic that something was terribly wrong. Same reason I hate auto, I like the rider/MC connection to be visceral.

Well you have got at least over a years wait so enjoy what you have

Like all electronic rider aids the question of whether skyhook is better or not depends on how refined it is. If it has been developed enough by Ducati to really do what it claims instantly and without the rider being aware of it then it should be a great leap forward in riding dynamics and better than not having it. However its brand new technology and Im sure it will need some tweaking before it works to the point where it becomes a true rider aid and not an interference, so at this point I would say no it probably isn't better than not having it. I have heard that BMW's active damping system on the HP4 works pretty well.

Guys, when they add the skyhook system to to the 1199, and they will, it will be a revaluation.

As for it being a maintained worry? Don't, it will be all pretty simple, which is why it is now on the Multistrada.

In my opinion, i think for adaptive suspension system, it has a future in public road vehicles.likely BMW, Ducati and Aprilia may continue to refine their system as time goes by, to make it better. I have no reference to define what is good, so i cannot comment on BMW etc. on who is better.. systems.

But i would say active suspension is a value riders are likely to appreciate like powertrain, as the system keeps on running (what you pay you are always using)...compared to ABS/traction,not saying it is not important but you utilze it less...often..

Yes BB its that much better you need to trade in straight away.

I would not spend too many brain cells on something that is not even available yet for the 1199.

From what I've read and feedback from a mate with a HP4 is that it's excellent on the road, particularly for the quicker rider. The bonus with it is the ability to adapt to a wide range of conditions almost instantly, thus giving you the best (or close to) setup for whatever you are doing. I'm told that on the track there is no real advantage when compared to a well setup bike with good suspension because you don't encounter the range of conditions that you would on the road. Looking forward to trying it soon.

Skyhook had some mixed reviews in the biking press over here when it was first released on the Multi. It's probably the next thing for the sports bike sector, I won't be committing though until I've tried a Panigale with it fitted.

I've seen a lot of posts (not referring to posts in this thread specifically) discounting the HP4 active suspension as only for the "enthusiast", street rider, etc but not for the track. Out of the box I was within a second of my times on a fully built '12 s1k with dialed-in ohlins and even closer, 2/10ths, to my 1199 race bike. Other racers have had the same experience. The active suspension works very well. Not sure skyhook is the right platform but no reason Duc couldn't make an equal or better product.

Other important things that aren't often talked about are how great and linear the braking is as well as the new TC that translates to fast laps.

Although current motorcycles of BMW Aprilia, etc are adaptive systems i would think predictive systems (mainly 3D camera based) may gradually be evolved.Hopefully, throw and brightness of headlamp would also improve to support the cameras in the night. All these, not that it is a technical hurdle but more of meeting acceptable price point.

Maybe with pre-brake (by camera and radar base systems) this .... things would have been prevented, remember somebody have posted this below video before...:

Anything that helps me keep my attention on the road ahead and improves the riding experience is somthing worth taking a look at...my .02

I will say 5 months and 7k miles in on my skyhook equipped multistrada. I'm convinced! It's superb for road use and really confidence inspiring on twisties (and I'm still using stock settings). That said, a number of guys have gotten sensor failures on it. None for me so far.

Not sure if I'd need it on a track bike tho.
