Would you trade a 2022 CBR650R for a 2018 Panigale V4 with 9000km on it?

My first post here! TLDR at the bottom.

I have the opportunity to trade my 2022 CBR650R for a 2018 Panigale V4. I was supposed to get a ‘22 V4 but it kept getting pushed back and I got a sweet deal on the CBR.

But, at my 1000km service for my CBR someone traded in a 2018 Panigale V4 and 2022 Monster for a brand new fire blade so I got first dibs on the bike if I want it.

Should I trade for the Panigale? It’s super clean but 60% of my riding is to work and uni on city streets.

TLDR; idk if I should swap my perfect-on-paper CBR for my dream bike, a 2018 Panigale V4?

you should find a way to keep both homie! and of course pick up that V4....but go ride one first, completely different animal...just make sure you like what your getting. my 1299 i never commute on, but i sure did on all my R1s and CBRs...

welcome to the forums!

They're not really comparable bikes. It just depends on your personal tolerance for suffering vs reward of owning a Pani.

If you're doing mostly commuting on city streets a V4 is a bad bike for that. It's a weekend fun bike you take to the canyons or the track. It's not a bike you commute on.

It's hot. It's loud. It's got an uncomfy seat. It's got uncomfy handlebars. Your knees are too high up. It hates going slow. It hates idling in traffic. Also I'm just speculating since I've never owned the 2018... but I assume it'll have more gremlins than my 2022 V4S, simply because it's the first year it was offered. And since it's out of warranty you'll be paying for those gremlins.

The CBR650R is the opposite of all those things.

The positives of a V4 are everytime you walk to get on it or walk away from it you feel bad .... People will wanna chat with you about your bad ... bike. The bike is way more enjoyable when you do have weekend fun (Hondas are built to be dull on purpose).

Think of it like high heels vs sneakers. High heels look great and are appropriate for specific events. Sneakers are comfy all the time. But some women don't care and wear high heels everyday because they like the look and put up with the pain. In the same way some people commute on Superbikes.

i never thought i would own a ducati because of the price, but once i saw one in person and heard it and felt it thumping my chest and beating on a garage concrete floor, i fell in love, i didnt know how or when , but i decided i would own one, and finally i bought a 2019 with 2500 or so miles and i bought it online, sight unseen only pictures, i didnt even know if i would be able to convert it right hand clutch so i could ride it, LMAO, but i bought the damn thing with alot of paint damage, for 3 or four months my son and i completely tore it down to frame and engine only and cleaned and degreased and stripped paint from every nut, bolt, bracket, spacer, and part etc etc etc, repainted some parts. its been a pain in the ..., but im in love again. yes it runs hot, it vibrates, LOL im almost 50 but i dont give a damn. i bought an F800GS for the long rides, a v4 is about performance, the footpegs are really high though, i have to buy some adjustable rearsets so i can get my left foot on the peg comfortably.. BUT I DONT CARE CUZ I HAVE ONE I LOVE IT. definitely be mindful though cuz just sitting on it gets uncomfortable but you can get used to it. if you change seat, rear sets, maybe even some riser clipons you could get it pretty comfy to sit on minus the heat,, my god does it put out some BTUs, but it is a head turner
mine isnt going away...ever.

Haha, you don't know discomfort, try some distance on a 916/996/998! Not as hot, granted, but so uncomfortable.
