So"¦.. I didn't need a new bike, but I said"¦ F-ck it. I put $500 on a 1290R Superduke, as my dealer had to order them, as they feared if they didn't they wouldn't get any in early. I ordered an orange one and low and behold, it came in last week.

I was on the fence on actually buying it, but once I saw it, I had to have it. So in the last three days, I put on over 400 miles. Should hit the 617 mile break in easy this week. Here is my initial thoughts, but I absolutely love the bike.

Power:
Had to start here"¦ OMG, This thing has a ton of torque"¦ Very similar to the 1199, which is what you would expect with the new 1290R motor. The fueling on the bike is VERY well done, as I was a little worried about that, but it is very easy to drive in the lower RPM and is easy to drive from stoplight to stoplight. A+ here"¦..

Power in any RPM and pulls all the way to redline with no gaps"¦. A freaking wheelie machine

Handling:
Does not ride like a naked bike. Feels close to a sports bike than a naked. The bike is super easy to change directions on, accelerate and brake. Very comfortable & easy to push.

Electronics:
Traction control is good, but I need more time with it to see how interruptive it really is. Dash is great, but you have to reset your settings every time you set the bike off"¦ Kind of weird.

I already ordered a set of rear sets, as the stock ones are SUPER slippery"¦. That and an exhaust"¦.. Got to have an exhaust, this thing is too damn quite!

Overall I love it"¦. Great change of pace bike & for super long road trips. My brother has a Aprilia tuono, so I road back to back"¦ I have to say, I like the superduke A LOT better!

Well done man I absolutely love mine it is one of the best bikes I have owned .
wait till you get this thing run in you will be laughing like some sort of weirdo when you ride it .
I have fitted the Power Parts rear sets and have gone for a Akra slip on and a Bodis mid pipe .
Enjoy .

I've got the Akra just waiting for the Bodis...are you remapping yours or is it running fine?

Looks awesome and the reviews are raving about it - I will be seriously looking at one when I get back from OS - nice bike mate well done

Yeah.... I wrote that, as I slightly left the family...lol.

Wilkson - I love this thing.... Put on close to 100 miles today before the rain came... Damn, I can't believe how smooth this thing is with the V-twin...

I ordered Power Parts rear sets, as well. That and the full Akra exhaust, as I wanted the mapping done right way too.

It's suppose to add 12 horsepower, so we shall see.

Also, I really wanted the orange wheels, but they aren't available yet.... My dealer thinks they are exactly same as stock, so if that is the case, I am just going to powercoat the originals.

After reading your post I do not see any indication that you suck. If I may add, you Rock!!

I am also thinking of getting this bike. I have not owned any KTM's nor do I know any one who owns one. Are their bikes of Hi Quality? are they also plagued by early adaptor issues?

HA! Thank you, sir. This is my first KTM as well. I did some reading up on the launch on the UK forums, as they got the bike first & a month before we did.

Some have had issues with the oil leaks, but that is about all I found. The 1290 motor is a beefed up from the RC8, so that was already a pretty good platform to start.

In general, KTM is a pretty good brand, BUT I found it really odd this bike only has a 1 year warranty. That's threw me off, but not enough not to buy the bike, as they do offer extended warranties, but I don't believe they are through KTM.

Fit & Finish overall is good, but the bike has few plastic pieces that I am praying someone makes in carbonfiber.

Other than the rearsets being so slippery and the dash resetting, I have ZERO complaints on this bike & those are pretty small....

Just need to figure out what exhaust to get!

Don't get me wrong the Tuono is an AWESOME bike... Fun, fast and fantastic electronics!

The electronics maybe enough for some to push it past the Superduke. Launch control, wheel control... WORK REALLY good on that bike.

It's taller than the Superduke & has one thing I REALLY wish the superduke had, which is a quickshift.

The Superduke does NOT come with one, but soon some aftermarket company will make one, but I found it REALLY ODD that it doesn't have one.

Since my brother had one & I really liked the looks of the duke, it was a easy decision from me....

Can't go wrong with either!

KTM are making a QS for these bikes . There have been issues with guys fitting aftermarket QS so avoid doing this .

I'm also hearing that the RC8's QS will work on the bike. Confirming this tomorrow. What rearsets you guys running and allow for GP shift without an adapter? I just went crazy at the dealership today and spent a bunch of money including the Akra full system.

Well done . From what I hear having a QS will void your warranty at the moment .
Bikes have been dropping valve collets due QS so the story goes.
Check with your dealer .
The Power Parts rear sets can be fitted as a GP shift . I run mine as street shift .

Just fitted my Bodis link pipe with the Akra slip on and also fitted a high flow filter and removed the SAS system .
.... me it sounds awesome and goes like a stabbed rat . I think Iceman has made a mistake ;)
