Just fitted my Bodis link pipe with the Akra slip on and also fitted a high flow filter and removed the SAS system .
.... me it sounds awesome and goes like a stabbed rat . I think Iceman has made a mistake ;)

nooooooo.....dont tell me that :p I get my Tuono next week....I might post some pics eventually so you can all tell me the KTM's better again :D

Show us a pic! I am still on the fence for the full Akra system... I see that others are running the Akra map with other full systems.

YES!!!! I got mine too!!!! I'll write my own review though and post pictures instead of taking over yours :)

P.S. I put the Austin Racing GP3 V3 can on mine......AWESOMENESS. SO loud lol

Stay tuned!!!

I'm also hearing that the RC8's QS will work on the bike. Confirming this tomorrow. What rearsets you guys running and allow for GP shift without an adapter? I just went crazy at the dealership today and spent a bunch of money including the Akra full system.

I am getting the KTM PP rear sets too & have the full system on order, but it's on back order!.... I don't know how long I want to wait.

I ordered a radiator protector & R&G tidy tail, as well. I have about 500 miles on it now & I was hoping to get the exhaust put on when I need my 617 mile service, but that will be by the end of the week!

I can wait on the QS & I am talking to my painter today about getting the wheels done.

Nah... TAKE IT OVER! The more info on this thread the better. Tell me more about the Austin Racing can! You running the Akra map?

Other than the rearsets being so slippery and the dash resetting, I have ZERO complaints on this bike & those are pretty small....

Just need to figure out what exhaust to get!

Yesterday I ordered the racing dongle that allows you to keep your settings intact - including keeping TC and ABS off.

Wellllll I really shouldn't- OKAY :D

I picked mine up here in Michigan on May 16th - two days before leaving on a week long business trip overseas = torture! Rode it twice before I left.

The bike sounds OK with the stock exhaust, nothing special. It has a nice bit of rumble to it but overall still sounds a bit muffled to me. Especially being so used to the Pani. This is a big reason I went with the aftermarket exhaust, which I'll get to in a hot minute.

First impressions: sitting on the bike is great! Exactly what I was looking for in my next street bike. It's comfortable, upright seat position and perfectly placed rearset controls (at least for me) make riding it long distances a breeze. The dash is easy to see, and the mirrors are placed just about perfect to see behind me (though I tried to adjust one the other day while riding and couldn't....still have to figure that out lol) and my girlfriend riding on the back loves the ride much more than on the Pani. Less leaned over, less effort to make sure she doesn't fly into me under braking. Bike is a tad bit taller than the Pani, and I already couldn't put both heels down on the Pani. Now I can't put either heel down unless I lean the bike a bit more to one side :) but totally worth it and I don't mind! FYI I'm 5'8 150lbs.

Riding impressions: Holy wow......if the Pani has torque, then we need to invent a new unit to describe what's coming out of this engine, especially at low RPM's. I think the only reason I haven't ruined a pair of pants yet is because I have yet to turn off the traction control. The bike feels light on it's feet, flicks very nicely. Granted it's pretty light for such a huge engine naked bike! Now if only I can get a solid solution for GP shift besides the Power Parts rearsets. I don't even care if I have a QS right away, I just want to be shifting the same way on the street and while racing so I don't have to remember how to shift every time I switch lol

I've made very few changes to the bike so far. I've added reservoir socks to the front brake and clutch reservoirs. I've got a sweet carbon fiber tank protector arriving today. I replaced the dull looking headlight with a whiter H4, aaaaaaaaand I put the Austin Racing GP3 V3 de-cat exhaust on the bike.

The exhaust sounds AWESOME! It's at least as loud as the Pani at idle, and louder at pretty much any rev. Plus, since it removes the cat and I still have the SAS on it, it pops a good amount and every once in a while spits a flame out the back :D I've now moved from the fear of getting pulled over for speed, to the fear of getting pulled over for loud noises! I wish I could let you all hear it in person because we all know that videos never do sound justice. I'll let ttkarp hear it sometime and he'll vouch for me!

Which brings me to my next point: part of the reason I wanted this bike was because it's too easy for me to get in trouble on a sports bike, especially on the highway. The Pani was built to go fast, and unless you're on the twisties or punching it on the highway, it becomes a relatively boring bike on the street that is constantly prodding you to risk your license. I thought a naked bike would help at least alleviate this problem, and it has. The lack of a windshield makes 80mph about the limit before life really begins to suck. On top of that, the more relaxed seating position makes cruising around town at non-offensive speeds much less frustrating than it was on the Pani. Do I still punch it from time to time to get that adrenaline rush? Do I still take curves and corners without really touching the brakes or slowing down? Absolutely, but the massive down low torque makes it much easier to enjoy without reaching the higher speeds.

Last but not least (at least before any questions), is the suspension. Non-adjustable front preload is a bit of a downer, but I'm not racing the bike and it hasn't been a huge setback thus far. I'm sure eventually I'll throw Ohlins on both front and rear but for now the suspension is adequate. In fact I haven't even touched it, I'm not sure which stock setting it's currently on. It's still on my "to investigate" list. It's obviously pretty soft compared to the Pani, but smooth lines and fast curves/turns have felt pretty good on the bike so far! If I was racing the suspension would need work, but for street riding I'm not complaining.

Feel free to throw out any questions about this awesome bike! Here's some pictures since I have the black one and not the orange like everyone else!

Great recap.... I agree with you 100%, especially on why I bought mine. I wanted a change of pace bike to have fun with and ride two up and this is great for that....

UGH! You have me thinking hard about this exhaust now.... Are you still running the stock map?

Yup, but hoping to load Akra map at first service.

I've noticed that when I let the throttle out to the contact point just to inch the bike forward, say at a left turn light, the engine likes to do this very slight oscillating action like it's trying to find out where it needs to be based on the engine load. It's not a huge deal though I have a sneaking suspicion it may have caused the bike to stall once or twice (a non-warm engine may have been a factor too) and I'm wondering if the Akra map will fix it. I guess I'll find out! I didn't ride without the exhaust long enough to see if it does it in stock form too.

Yup... I got the same on the stock exhaust... Partly I'm getting used to the bike/partially under very little load the bike is searching.

Not a big issue and the fueling is WAY better than I expected at low RPMs

Well done man I absolutely love mine it is one of the best bikes I have owned .
wait till you get this thing run in you will be laughing like some sort of weirdo when you ride it .
I have fitted the Power Parts rear sets and have gone for a Akra slip on and a Bodis mid pipe .
Enjoy .

pictures wilks?

BigBoost, (and anyone else that bought a 1290R) I don't think you suck. I think you made a good choice. I love this bike.

I am seriously considering trading my Pani on a 1290R. I hate to do it, but can't justify having more than 2 street bikes and can't let go of my Multi for long trips and 2up. So the question is, will I have trade-in remorse? The reason I am considering this change is much of what has already been discussed in this thread about the Pani plus the heat issue. I love riding the Pani in the twisties in cool temps, but other than that, the Multi gets used. I am thinking the 1290R will give me the fun bike factor in all riding conditions. What do you guys think that have owned both? I am going to be sorry?

So, I was going to update this thread. I have about 4,000 miles on this bike now and I LOVE IT. I just got the full Akra exhaust and rear sets...

OMG: This thing is a FREAKIN BEAST now.... It totally transformed the bike. It is the perfect in between bike. Great sports bike power, no heat issues and comfort. Even good with 2-up.

So depending on what my sports bikes are, will you have any regrets? In my mind, ZERO.

It's a great everyday bike and if you have another sports bike, I would do it in a heart beat.

Seriously, this thing rocks. The only thing, I really wish it had was a quick-shift. Other than that, the low-end fueling, power, torque, handling...

And the power with the full exhaust... Freaking awesome machine.

Awesome. Let me know, if you have any other questions.
