Plastic pieces found in oil

I performed an oil change today on my 1199R and found these three plastic pieces in the oil which I drain from the bike. Any thoughs or ideas as to where they came from?

I have the parts schematic for the bike and went through it page by page and did not see any internal components which have small tabs like this.

Has anybody seen this before?

The oil and water gear drives are plastic could be from them . I wouldn't stress too much about it . Are they a cream looking colour ?

No, they are dark brown plastic tabs. One end is smooth and molded, while the other end is where it broke off. Does not look like a tooth from a gear.

Was thinking more of a piece that had not been cleaned up correctly on the gear when moulded .
It was just a guess .

I'm not terribly familiar with 1199 internals, so I can't say what these are. However, I can say that I'd be worried and would send them along to DNA or at least a dealer to see if anyone has any idea what's going on. Things that large in the oiling system, even plastic ones, are not good. If they're on the pressure side they can obstruct oil flow and starve components of lubrication!

Welcome to the club, I found a BOLT. Couldn't find it on the part diagram either. Have it documented with your dealer and be done with it :).

The 1199R has internal parts made of Teflon.
It can be one of those parts.

But it will never be a good thing, finding those parts in the oil.

IMO something broke, or on the gearbox or somewhere inside the engine case.

I'll try to get more info on this and I'll update as soon I have news.

I agree with cloner! Have them check it.

I found one of those when doing my first oil change (the dealer did the first oil service) and thought it ended up in my drain pot from somewhere else (did mention it to the dealer) - have had about four oil changes since (use the bike for racing) and nothing - BUT three weeks ago I found another three pieces - no discussion where they came from, very similar to those in your pic.(mines have a bit more square cross section - I have an "S") These ones I handed over to the dealer. After the first incident they did some kind of investigation but came up empty handed. With some more substantial proof I hope for a better answer this time. I will keep you posted.

my first indication would be a ball bearing cage tab or something in that direction. still surprised to see something like this happen nowadays.

Boy, that is weird. hope that they are non functional pieces, flash from another part of the manufacturing process, maybe packaging of some kind for the parts during assembly.

Was just thinking about this. These may be tabs from the oil filter assembly, supporting parts? maybe not, just looked at a picture of an oil filter. The tabs look like molded pieces and don't look like Teflon but abs or something.

When I showed this picture to a friend of mine that works in a Ducati dealer, the answer that i got was...

It looks like the tabs from the inside of an oil bottle.

Sorry to highjack this thread, but could anyone shed some light on oil change intervals if the bike is regularly tracked?!

Thanks in advance

I have no certain data but change my oil every ~2000 miles

I have my engine apart now and have found plastic pieces in the oil .
Will find the source .

Mine are exactly the same and have about eight of them . The motor is partially dismantled at this stage but have no sign of where they came from .
We suspect it may be from a bearing cage in the gearbox . Will let you know when we find out .

Just to be clear, if I find something like that in my oil I AM going to stress about it!

I found one last time I did an oil change, doing one in an hr so ill report back. I was thinking wtf it was last time.... Glad I'm not the only one, but this sux lol.
