what temp do the fans kick on?

Hi guys just to update you on this.

Did my ride on Friday morning total about 350Km/220 miles as I mentioned. Speed mostly ranged between 140 to 170 Km/hr (87 to 105 Miles/hr) with short periods of accell/decell in between.

I had no clutch problem whatsoever. Maybe mine is different ? or this issue is not directly heat related.

Rode out early morning, and at 30C/86F engine temp remained steady around 75 to 78C (167F to 173F)

Later morning once it had reached 40C/104F it held steady at around 85 to 88C (185F to 190F)

I got lucky and it was a "cool" day, by the time I got home it was only 45C/113F. and the engine was around 90C/194F, so I did not get to see it perform at 50C .....yet.

You could almost say that for the given speeds I was doing (fast highway?) engine temperature is almost linear with ambient temperature. For every ten degree Celsius Ambient goes up, engine temp also goes up approx 10 degree Celsius.

I have noticed in the little "city riding" i've done the above does not hold true, there it seems to hover around 104C /219F but I'd need to ride it a bit more at slow/start stop traffic conditions to really comment about it.

For the rest I'd note that your right leg certainly gets a good roasting at the temps we're talking about. I'ts ok at speed but at slow speed with ambient temperatures already high the heat on the right side of the bike becomes plain uncomfortable. I'm hoping Ducati or someone will bring out some kind of heat shield, I'd buy one ;-)

Anyway I hope that helps someone.

Took my bike for a small pre first service oil/filter change after the ride, better safe than sorry. Also had them fit the carbon hugger while they did the oil change ;-) Looks good!

I did about 180 miles myself today in temps up to 20 degrees C.

The clutch problem was intermittent throughout. A reasonable speed say 60-70 in clear air, light throttle and it's fine. Cracking on hard even to 6k with heavy use of throttle engine temp rises clutch gets stiff. Get into town speeds and it varies between stiff and almost bloody impossible as temp rises. Mine is definitely heat related so is the dealers.

Anyway time for some good news, 580 miles cracked today, 60 to the dealer tomorrow, first service, slave cylinder fix, gold chain and full system and chip here we come!!!

F to P setting too then off to Maxton to get it setup properly, then I'll stop fiddling with it...promise....ok then just one or two more pieces of carbon!!!:D

Had my first service today... Enjoy the full system... Is awesome! Where's maxton? Wouldn't mind getting my suspension set up properly. I'm really needing some grippy rear sets, the standard pegs are way too slippy! And considering that's one of the major points of contact with the bike, is very much needed, just can't justify the £700 odd for the Ducati ones..... Mmm

Maxton are in Frodsham, Cheshire. Maxton Suspension home page

Yeah well rear sets, I have to agree but I don't like the DP ones. I have spoken to Gilles Tooling who say they will have something in July. I had a set on my MV F4 and they were incredible. Tons of adjustment and the finish was in titanium. I have a pic somewhere I will dig out and you will see what I mean.

Try gilles.tooling - Shop or

Gilles AS31GT Adjustable Rearsets - Demon Tweeks

They give you an idea to the quality. Just awesome.

WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are the gonna do to it

That's down to me more than them, I'm off for my stag weekend to Portugal on Thursday for five days then busy when I get back so I said two weeks is fine. All dealers are busy this time of year doing pdi's on new bikes and summer bikers getting services and MOTs so I would rather they do it well than quickly. I want no burnt side panel from the big manifold!

He also mentioned that the PDI in the UK includes switching the bikes to P from F and mine wasn't done so technically it's a freebie. I have to say I've done 300 UK miles in the last 24 hours and I'm well and truly knackered now. Mainly down to three things. The sticky, faulty clutch, the totally unforgiving rear end in F, so bad on a bumpy road your vision goes and also a new thing I've noticed, handle bar vibration. I guess when you bolt the headstock straight to the motor it's only to be expected. I was getting bad pins and needles in the right hand (seems to affect the right mirror too) luckily the right hand does nothing important, only the throttle

Anyway it's more likely I'm not used to doing 300 miles on one and I'm a bit out of shape.

So pleased when that oil service indicator came up at 622 miles. I ended up on 680 so I overdid it a bit on the way to the dealer. The orange rev limit goes too and becomes all nice and black to 11k, but I stuck With the 6k ish may be 7....definitely not 8...I think.

So weeks off for my wrists to recover sounds fine to me!

Understood dude:p

I got really bad pins and needles in my right hand also, but put it down to old age :D:D:D:D

Glad your off on your stag, your "throttle" wrist should get a proper rest if you do it proper ;)

Which brand chain are you upgrading to?

DID always used em on all my ducatis. They last really well if maintained well, look great, and don't rust the first time they see rain like the stock one does unless you smother it in lube.

Anyone recommend a good lube, don't like waxes, I'm using AFAM at the mo but it does seem to fling a bit.

"Profi dry lube" ever since... I don't know if present on the UK market
