lots of dead horse beating here. So i'll continue the trend... so the SL is roughly twice as much as an R. A Veyron is not twice, or three times, but over 10 times as much as a Nissan GTR, or 4x as much as some Ferraris. is that "worth it" for the added performance? If you have the money, and it makes you smile, sure it is. I don't understand the point fo debating the "worth it" issue. Is any car worth 1-2 million? is the SL worth $65k? All I can say is that the Veyron sold out and I'm sure the SL will too, so enough people certainly think it is. If you had a relative net worth over a billion like most that buy a veyron, why the hell would you NOT buy the SL if you were in the market for a sportbike?

Cannot argue with your points here....But realistically how many people that will buy or have bought the SL are billion/millionaires?? I know we cannot possibly know the answer to that.. But I suspect that many are not and are buying into the hype...But that's their right...:)

Akra - 3.5k
Battery - $150
Shocks - 3k?
Calipers - 2k?

You forgot -

Mag Wheels - 3.5k
SECOND Akra exhaust - 3.5k
Carbon Subframe - 4k (Ive seen one for 4k)
Carbon fairings - 5k???
Rearsets - $1200
Mag Frame - 4k?
Ti bolts - 1k?
Advanced Electronics (wheelie control) - 5k?
Forged pistons - $1200

Thats about 30k right there.

Second Akra??? Mags are only $2100. Advanced wheelie control is software (0 to Ducati). Forged pistons, maybe worth some money. The point of this, there is NO justification for the SL other than its name. Any car comparison you get get a bunch more horses, or some huge difference. Don't get me wrong, if I had $65K to trow away, I would buy it. But I wouldn't pick it over the R for it's performance advantage. Heck, it barely has less weight then my base (with my Akra), and not much more horses, it just can rev higher safer. But of course, this is all MHO!! Not trying to change anyone's mind here.

BTW, the Veyron nearly doubles the GTR HP, and 50% faster. - quite a feat when you start at 545 HP and 193 MPH..

It's a dead horse party,
Who could ask for more?
Everybody's flogging,
Leave your logic at the door

Trauma, were you in the market for a 50K-100K dollar sport bike before the SL was announced?

If I didn't buy the R already, I'd buy the SL. But I'm not a good enough rider for either.

That wasn't quite the point i was trying to make though. You and others were talking about adding parts to an R and not understanding why the cost is so high. You can add $20k to a GTR and double it's HP too.. people had 1200hp Toyota Supras 15 years ago. There are also ~$60k kit cars like the Ultima GTR or Superlite that outperform the Veyron... i'm not going to start arguing that the veryon is "worth" the extra money because it does it with luxury and reliability etc etc, but simply to say that both the veyron and the SL are worth it to enough people for them to make sense to make, even if the added performance/dollar ratio doesn't make sense to many of us.

To me personally, the S wasn't worth the added cost... never mind the R or SL... but if they can sell the damn things, i'm not sure Ducati is too worried if this forum deems them a "bad value" :)

I am building a project bike over the winter that is a very similar spec (more race oriented) than the SL. I will be creating a thread on the build soon to show the price of the build and the components, features and final weight.

I have learned so much by researching the project and have already purchased some very rare parts.

If I didn't spend all my money dirt sprint car racing, I would think about it long and hard, not because I could use it, I can't even really ride my BASE to it's limit. But because it is the BADDEST most complex state of the art example of a two cylinder 4 stroke road race motorcycle, and to paraphrase Henry Ford, a motorcycle doesn't need anymore cylinders than a woman has tits, and the larger the better.

People seem to sometimes judge what you buy but it is funny to me that Paris Hiltons has a Ferrari 458 and she can barely drive a CAR.

So many people buy Race like street cars like a Fearrari, Porsche and etc and I dont hear people say "you cant drive that thing its full potential on a track!" :D
