If I didn't buy the R already, I'd buy the SL. But I'm not a good enough rider for either.

BTW, the Veyron nearly doubles the GTR HP, and 50% faster. - quite a feat when you start at 545 HP and 193 MPH..

That wasn't quite the point i was trying to make though. You and others were talking about adding parts to an R and not understanding why the cost is so high. You can add $20k to a GTR and double it's HP too.. people had 1200hp Toyota Supras 15 years ago. There are also ~$60k kit cars like the Ultima GTR or Superlite that outperform the Veyron... i'm not going to start arguing that the veryon is "worth" the extra money because it does it with luxury and reliability etc etc, but simply to say that both the veyron and the SL are worth it to enough people for them to make sense to make, even if the added performance/dollar ratio doesn't make sense to many of us.

To me personally, the S wasn't worth the added cost... never mind the R or SL... but if they can sell the damn things, i'm not sure Ducati is too worried if this forum deems them a "bad value" :)

I am building a project bike over the winter that is a very similar spec (more race oriented) than the SL. I will be creating a thread on the build soon to show the price of the build and the components, features and final weight.

I have learned so much by researching the project and have already purchased some very rare parts.

If I didn't spend all my money dirt sprint car racing, I would think about it long and hard, not because I could use it, I can't even really ride my BASE to it's limit. But because it is the BADDEST most complex state of the art example of a two cylinder 4 stroke road race motorcycle, and to paraphrase Henry Ford, a motorcycle doesn't need anymore cylinders than a woman has tits, and the larger the better.

People seem to sometimes judge what you buy but it is funny to me that Paris Hiltons has a Ferrari 458 and she can barely drive a CAR.

So many people buy Race like street cars like a Fearrari, Porsche and etc and I dont hear people say "you cant drive that thing its full potential on a track!" :D

The main reason for this is because cars are universally considered status symbols. Either a sign of wealth or a fashion accessory.
Motorcycles, particularly expensive bikes, are considered toys for the enthusiast. They exude a "go fast" image. ;)

Mind you.. I'm one of those people who brought a Pani because I like it.. not because I'm anywhere close to being able to ride the "tits" off it.. :D

back to performanceQ

I've been thinking about some of the things that have been said about the SL, like it might not win a shoot out with the HP 4 and others, and I think this is way off the mark. The 1199R already beat the HP4 in multiple shoot outs and that included track performance, and the Superleggere surely must be well beyond the 1199R. Hence it will be dominant in any shoot out.
