Howdi all. I have had a random 'ENGINE' warning on the dash for the past couple of weeks. It was appearing and disappearing at random but the bike still felt fine. Today when I was out it was coming on and off again but about a half hour into the spin the bike started running like crap.

Basically it feels like it's running on one cylinder at low revs. It sounds terrible, struggles to idle and the throttle response is dead - but when it hits 5k or so it's like it wakes up and starts working so I am getting a surge at that point. Idling it sounds like a bag of hammers and it is making the odd clattering sound when taking off from lights or moving from stopped.

I stuck in the diagnostics with Melcodiag and am getting this (without the ENGINE warning light). Translated it reads 'servo motor defective'. The flapper valve was disconnected 3 years ago so it would seem strange if there was an issue now. The other error is 'Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit'. Anybody seen or experience similar? The nearest useful dealer is not in this country so I was hoping I could figure out what it was without the Ducati diagnostics!:)

Sounds like a bad map sensor. Symptoms are identical to that of yours.

Check my map sensor thread, and explains why at high rpm its ok, sound like map sensor, however, mine gave a warning light.

Confirmed: CEL turns on if one mapping sensor is defect.

Ordered a pair from Motorapido (€160 with shipping so not too bad). Will try get them on at the weekend and hopefully it will be back running properly just in time for winter hibernation :p
Cheers all
